Paseo del Prado 32 Madrid, Madrid, Spain and Canary Islands, 28014, 91-420-1569
... cruised around the lake with our sandwiches and wine. After the park, we headed to the famous Museo Prado, which is free from 6-8 pm, just enough time to check out the masterpieces by El Greco, Goya, and Velazquez. But Caity´s favorite was El Cardinal by Rafael, who looks like he could jump out of the canvas at any moment. Tom was a fan of Goya´s 3 de Mayo, 1898, a powerful piece.
That night, we set out for Sarah´s designed Tapa´s tour. We nibbled on Gambas de Ajilo ...

We had lunch in the famed Candido family restaurant (Michelin 3 star). The piglet (3-week old) was excellent. Super tender and tasty :D We took video of the cutting of piglet with a plate. Two people had small cuts when the chef mashed the plate on the floor. The dessert was just some icecream again. The soup was okay, but the next day we had the same thing at ...
... As we left and started walking, we stumbled upon the Park del Retiro....yeah, another serendipitous moment! The park was incredible with formal gardens, statues, diverse groups of people, a huge pond with people in rowboats, street musicians and circus-type performers. We were captivated by one juggler/whip cracker/comedian who grabbed us with his punchlines even though we didn't speak the language. He really knew how to ...
Madrid, Spain jwagnersd... complete with wrinkles, but the most striking thing was their expressive faces, frozen in paint, and yet you could see their life on their faces. Each one seemed to profoundly human, struggling to be learned or pious. I loved them. There was one piece by Rembrandt, called Artemis. The sheer fabric of her dress and the seashell goblet were masterfully done, the fabric almost seeming to billow off the canvas. Walking around Madrid I was struck ...
Madrid, Madrid, Spain and Canary Islands nancydebI went with eight other students to Madrid for a three-day weekend. We took the midnight bus there, arriving at 6am. After experimenting somewhat with various modes of transportation, taking the night bus is definitely my favorite. Buses here are so clean and comfortable, definitely a step up from Greyhounds in America. Plus, by taking the night bus, you have the whole day ahead of you because you arrive ridiculously early, before ************e's up, and you save a ...
Madrid, Madrid, Spain and Canary Islands lar4290... Claudia at a birthday party, Victor, Dori, Irene, Irene's friend Isabel, and I went by Metro to the city center. Puerta del Sol, to be precise. It was very crowded on a Saturday night. I had a chocolate napoleanita at a famous bakery near the Sol Metro station and it was delicious (thanks for the suggestion, Irene). We played hide and seek in the dark maze gardens outside the Palacio Real (Royal Palace), walked the ...

Madrid, Spain acota_99... the toiletries. God Bless Madrid's fabulous subway system that made our transfer to the city a piece of cake. This is one of the few cities in Europe that includes their airport on the urban subway line (1 € ticket) . We had the name of a youth hostel outside of town but no reservations. When we arrived there the receptionist told us their were no beds available but when she saw the panicked looks on our faces she checked ...
