Perhentian Islands

English - From the National Park we made it all the way to the Perhintian Islands about an hour off the North East Coast of Malaysia - 12 hours, 3 buses and 2 boats later. We stayed on an Island called Kecil which in mainly for backpackers rather than package holidays. It is the high season at the moment and we new it would be difficult to find accommodation but the when we got there we soon realised this was an understatement. An hour after arriving and 2 beaches later we still didn't have a...

Lovely Paradise

The Perhentian islands were everything that I wanted Southern Thailand to be. They were not crowded and had beautiful beaches and the water quality was wonderful. I stayed at Moonlight Guesthouse for $3 per night in a dorm that I had all to myself. During the day I lazed around on the beach or went walking because there isn't much to do there. If you want to go trekking and do adventure sports this is not the place for you, but if you want sun and beautiful scenery, or maybe want to get a boo...

Perhenthian Islands

As in life, when you travel sometimes after the great hight comes the low, and in my case was the trip out of Thailand, the dreadful night ferry to Surathani, then the scoundrels that instead of a regular bus which are excellent they sent me in a minibus (a little Toyota minivan that seats 10 people) and since they were breaking my bag because it would not fit I had no other choice that travel for about 6 hours with the bag on my lap. At my breaking point I had to switch vans and things got b...

Malaysia

Hi ALL, I only had ten days in Malaysia but it was well worth going. I started out in the Perhentian Islands off the North Eastern coast then visited the Cameron Highlands in the West of the country. Crossing the Thai Malaysia border I travelled to Kota Bharu. My first visit to a muslim country the changes were immediately obvious. At the bus stop were what seemed like hundreds of women wearing scarfs covering their heads, no veils though. I took a taxi for the one hour journey to the ferry t...

The Perhentian Islands

After a fast and slightly nerve racking cab ride we booked our fast boat to Pulau Kecil (small island) and waited around this sleepy little fishing village until we departed. We arrived on the Small Island by 7 pm where we booked into the Moonlight Chalets, had a fantastic dinner and chilled out on this small tropical little island. The next day was a perfect day for laxing in the sun, which is exactly what we did. Followed of course, with swims in the water to cool off! Met some super friend...

Pulau Perhenthian - sun, sand, sea and snorkling

After our jungle adventures we decided to have some R&R, so we caught the train onto Kuala Besur and then by boat across the sea to the islands of Pulau Perhanthian (Stop Islands in Malay) where we planned to relax on the sand, get a tan, swim in the crystal clear sea, snorkle over the coral and recharge some of our batteries. We satyed on the smaller of the two islands and booked ourselves into the only available accomodation on Long Beach at moonlight Chalet, a run down dive for 80RM a ...

Beware of Sharks on Land

... even at really low prices since not having them filled was like throwing money away for them. Since we had one more night booked already at Maya, we decided to check out Shari-La and see if we could get a deal. We walked over and the difference between this resort and our "chalet" was like night and day. We came into a gorgeous hotel entrance with marble floors and sweeping views of the water. The resort is located on a rocky cliff in between two beaches which made it like a ...

Paying the price

... i think... included trigger fish, parrot fish, barracuda, puffer fish...... hmmmm I don't know, there were so many! It was an amazing day though.... almost made up for the accommodations being such a rip off!!!!So that was our Malaysian Island experience... the next day we got back on a speed boat (sat in the back this time) picked up more people at other spots on the island... passing many of the local fishing boats along the way.... and then headed back to the mainland.

Desert Island Bliss

... no Internet or phones. On an evening the lights were powered by generators at each resort. The beach is scattered with different resorts, each having an attached restaurant. So I spent most of the 10 days working my way though each of the restaurants. I found a wonderful place to eat my breakfast on a morning, it was in the forest and had a perfect view of the bay! On an evening ...
