Korean Job Hunting Bible

once a friend asked me about how to find job in Korea. i started writing, and couldn't stop. through the years i have added to this, but the information is still dated from my experiences in 2005.

Korean Job Bible
there are some really ****** jobs out there and some really great jobs - i don't want to see anyone in a ****** job. lots of people have horror stories, but it doesn’t have to be that way. armed with this information you ...

My initial reaction to Korea...

... comprised of food. Some things never change, seeing as grocery stores are certainly what make my world go round. I have already tried out 3 different grocery stores here
The kids are good for the most part- it’s been three weeks of teaching and only today did I realize that I get to write a detention on Friday for two kids who have avoided doing their homework. ROOTS

... background on this. first off, in korea, when its hot, you eat hot foods (temperature hot). people here believe that you overcome heat with heat. personally it doesn't make sense as i am sweating profusely all over my food. dog stew falls into this category. furthermore, dog meat is said to be extremely good for you. so people depersonify these animals and eat them. anyways, it was delicious! even eunice, who is a die hard dog lover, rated it as "not bad".

Gongju, former Baekje capital

... trip I have yet to get around to filing. Murphy's Law I guess. I was hoping to get around to updating those unfinished entries during my time here in camp, but that was before I realised the workload we'd have. · Want more? If you want to keep tabs on us media wise (video and pictures) you can do so here and here. The first link is video and pictures from the camps Meg is presiding over. Let's call it the red corner. The Deed Is Done

... of guys and they were all heading out for a drink tonight. They asked Meg and I if we wanted to go. That was possibly the stupidest question that has been addressed to me in a long while; of course I wanted to go out, but couldn't (had to work). The fact that we couldn't go out for a drink sort of hit home the fact that I'm on the other side, the unfamiliar, senior staff side, of the CK fence this time around. I mean, aren't I normally the one asking ...

A strange Christmas

... all-consuming job at hand. · DIY If walking around an almost deserted COSTCO (for those not clued in, COSTCO is a wholesaler... think Wal-Mart, wholesale style) at 10pm on Christmas Eve has taught us anything, apart from how weird life can be, it is that there is good money to be made in the professional photography game, assuming you can get it. Prices for developing digital prints range from 140 Korean won (€0.10, CND$0 ...

Outpost CKW2007

... Only a few lights were on in the closed looking building that our bags were piled in front of, the building the taxi driver gestured was the building the piece of paper we handed him requested we be taken to. The closed looking building wasn't in fact closed and we waited by the security desk for some sign of life to appear. It appeared, it being the/a security guard, some 20 minutes later, sneaking up behind Meg as she was playing like a ...

Driving Away from Korea

The day has finally come. I finished my contract in Korea, met my family and said goodbye. It was a lot harder to say goodbye to Korea than I ever thought it would be. I complained a lot, but it holds a special place in my heart. To sum up my take on Korea and its people I will use an example of a typical day driving in Korea.

I did not think of this idea all on my own. I was inspired by an author named Michael Breen. His theory goes that any observer can summarize ...

Temple Stay

... The altar in this temple was an elaborate display of three golden Buddhas. The bow is with your hands in the praying position, then down onto both knees at the same time. Then down with your forehead touching the ground and your hands at your sides rising palms up past your ears. Then everyone faces each other and repeats the action. All of this is followed by the monks chanting, ringing bells and hitting these wooden instruments. They gave us a book of ...
