... platform is helpfully marked out with your carriage number next to the automatic gate, and dead on cue, the ghostly long-nosed train, like an alien spacecraft slides slowly along the platform until the centre of the doors match up exactly with the mysterious arrows along the edge of the platform. The journey is very smooth and very quiet and feels as though you are flying along the ground. Every so often a guard in a beige uniform strides through and checks you off on a ...

... day Alistair learnt a Typhoon was heading up through Asia from a little boy called Kodai. He spoke very good English and told us how he and his family were leaving before the typhoon came up to Japan. Armed with a wetsuit and boots we get a briefing. They seem genuinely delighted to have two white people on board and and we get a comprehensive lesson on how to use a snorkel. At no point though, even on the medical form do they ask if we can swim! They are concerned about our mental health! It take 30 minutes to get to the ...

    Monorail

A travel blog entry by dizzyseren on Aug 20, 2014

As expected today hurt. A lot. Sunburn and a hangover are not a good combination. I eat something which is basically a donut filled with curry. It's not until 2pm I leave the hostel. Without a plan, I consider walking to the main shopping centre but it's very very hot. There's a monorail. So that's what I do. It reminds me of play mobile and is like a disappointing roller coaster. I think it's ...
