... but after Mendoza, we felt like pros. We bought a cheeky box of wine and then made our way back along the freeway to Monterey - a much quicker but less scenic route! We had a delightful BBQ (nice one David!) that evening, washed down with lovely wine and local craft beers for Chris. It was also time round 2 of canasta and we were gutted when our beginner's luck appeared to run out... Alison and David were not! We were down but not out and vowed our revenge. A great soirée by the ...

... Bay Aquarium. We made it through the whole place plus had a behind-the-scenes tour of where and how they rehabilitate sea otters. Very fun. Random fact of the day: sea otters' fur has 1000 hairs per square inch. The aquarium is well worth the visit!

This is a day that is truly better expressed with pictures than words. Enjoy!

... t too bad (I was wet, but not soaked, and I spared the camera). The crabs are a riot, but the starfish are my favorite. I probably spent two hours climbing around on the rocks looking for tidal pools. It was wonderful.

Another fun day! It’s funny to think how different the ocean experience is on the west coast compared to the east. I didn’t see one “beach” that would have been comfortable to lay out on a ...

Today we hit Carmel. An upmarket seaside town. Mike was especially excited about this stop as Clint Eastwood lives here and (history check) in the 1980's he was the Mayor of this cute town. So, random laws of this town, no high heels over two inches and no eating ice creams on the sidewalks...! This town is basically shops, shops, ...
