    ... by cables and fencing. It is the logo of the Pebble Beach Company and the most photographed tree in the world apparently. It will be a very sad day when that tree comes to the end of its life. I was quite taken by this tree for some reason; it was one of my favourite points on the drive.

    If you are a golfer and have pots of money then this is definitely the place to be. It truly was one of the most picturesque drives we have done.

    ... to admire the waves crashing against the rocks, the seals basking in untidy rows on the beaches, or the cormorants, pelicans or gulls crowding onto the rocks. Everywhere you looked you could see the shiny heads of seals bobbing up...  and we passed the occasional clusters of sea lions on the beaches or around the base of the rocks. The noise they make are a dead give away! We didn't see Clint Eastwood, Paris HIlton, Bing Crosby, Tiger Woods or any of the other stars ...

    ... absolutely chockers with very vocal sea lions had us in stitches.

    The historic area of Monterey is nearby and Customs House dominates. Restored to its 1840's appearance, it displays an exotic selection of goods that traders brought to exchange for cowhides.     ... we flavour our garlic with food!!' They even have garlic wine and garlic ice-cream!! The food was gorgeous.....today we are stinking of garlic!! No sea otters spotted inside the aquarium, nor out on the viewing platforms looking into the bay, we headed for a restaurant on the pier hoping this may be our chance to spot them playing offshore, but no such luck...
