... miles long, some that were really dark and wet inside. With the bus' dim headlights, it was better that we were alone on the road. There were often animals along the way, including a scared pig in the road, and some really not scared sheep that I actually had to get out and chase away. The mini road trip was a nice break from buses and trains, and Ben and Alexa were really fun to hang out with.

Finally, we ...

... of watersports, excursions, restaurants/bars and if you ever visit coastal Montenegro we would recommend using Budva as a base for exploration (and the salted pancakes at Garden Caffe (sic) as a base for sustenance). 5km along the beach to the south lies the resort of Sveti Stefan - an old fishing island it was appropriated by the Yugoslav government in the 1960s and turned into an exclusive resort.    All the buildings ...

What It's Like to Chill with the Most Ruthless Men

... next morning we all got into Darko's blue Audi (car) and left for his Father's house. I remember arguing with Darko about wanting to bring lots of luggage with me and he replied I didn't need all that stuff and I could only bring one normal sized bag with me and I had to leave the rest of my things at his apartment; I did. On the way to his father's, Darko made a few important stops for the purpose of giving me the grand tour. We only stopped briefly at some military installations ...

Pissed up in Podgorica (too much free beer)

... pretty limited in their amusement potential really. It's not even a fantastic bridge. If you only get to see one bridge in your life, make it Charles Bridge in Prague. If you only get to see two, add the Latin Bridge in Sarajevo. If you get to see three, there is quite a nice one in Rome. Even if your life isn't judged by some weird bridge quota, I still can't say this is a must see. Nevertheless, I took an unhealthy number of ...

MONTENEGRO's MOST DRAMATIC SETTING, Kotor

... Kotor was that there was a forest fire up in the mountains, so it was pretty hazy for our 2 days in the beautiful setting of a town. RANDOM Do you know what Montenegro gets excited about during the Olympics? WATER POLO! So much so, that the National team is on billboards around the country for advertisements, and it is the lead story when the National team plays. Layton sat with a group of locals in the bus station at Niksic and watched both the semi-finals games ...

... bit about the history of the town. It had been a part of many different empires, including the Spanish and the French for a short while but owes a lot of its appearance to the centuries during which it was part of the Venetian Empire. From Kotor we drove to Budva, taking a panoramic drive rather than the more direct tunnel so we could see Kotor from above. Budva is another beautiful walled city. Vladimir showed us all of the development around the ...

Maybe if I understood the language better I wouldn't have these problems but I have heard similar comments from people that do speak the language. 8/7 Last night I had spoken with a girl from Basel, Switzerland staying at the same apartment I was. We talked for a long time and she told me of her month in Serbia at a language school. We were both going north on the bus today so we agreed to walk together to the station. It was a long, long way! ... some fun and visit Dubrovnik's Old City: Stari Grad. And were very well rewarded - it's wonderful. It even made us feel we are actually on vacation :-) This walled city has the perfect blend of European elegance and Mediterranean laid-back atmosphere. It is mostly white, built from "Jerusalem stone" of local origin. Every square millimeter is occupied with a restaurant/shop/tourist information/gallery. In general, it appears Croatians have whole-heartedly embraced ...

What is a Fjord?

... s how we wanted to remember it. So we retreated to a nearby square and sat in a cafe people watching until we had to leave. We had really enjoyed our stay in Kotor and wanted to explore more of Montenegro. The people were really friendly and eager to tell of other interesting places to visit in their country, but I couldn't figure out why they put sour cream on everything - even the spaghetti! But we had to make our way to Budapest for our flight to Sweden and to Karin and Tadek's wedding.
