Up through the pine and cypress forests and past some of the few remaining ancient remnants- we saw the columns from the Temple of Apollo. Continued on to Mt. Philerimos whose plateau is 1000feet above sea level. Stunning, uninterrupted views along the coastline. Here is also the Church of Our Lady, whose chapel dates from the 15th century and which was built on the remains of an old Greek temple dedicated ...

We came across a church which we thought might be the monastery but were shooed out by the priest as he was leaving and locking everything. A bit more wandering and we found the monastery albeit from the back door. We met up briefly with Scott and Julie who had taken ...

... up to a castle at the top which like many medieval fortresses replace Greek and roman temples and reused much of the marble from the prior temples. The view of the Aegean sea from the top was amazing. The top of the castle had ancient roman rooms. You could take a donkey up to the top, but we were advised against it as some people fall off and get injured. I got a nice linen pants and almost left ...
