... which shouldn’t be missed. When we arrived in Porto we decided to get a campsite next to the beach. After setting ourselves up we took a walk along the beach. What a wonderful feeling seeing the Atlantic stretched out in front of you and hearing the water rushing in at you. It was fun to know that we were staring across at home too!
There was no internet at the campsite and both Chris and I had some stuff we needed to do so the next day we ...
... a meal, and then turning in. The hostel was one of the nicer places I've stayed. It's a very large 3 story house that's been converted to a hostel, but completely maintains the feel of a big old house. The setting really promoted the mingling of the people in the hostel, which was great because it was a pretty diverse crowd.
Porto itself is quite a nice place. It's very much what it wants to be, and nothing more. You get that feeling sometimes when a city ...

... are. The distilleries were surprisingly accessible, with all of them offering tours of the caves and tastings, for a fee of course. We were only able to visit a couple (Porto seems to close for 2 hours during lunch) before catching our evening flight out, but we are glad to have tried some new and very interesting kinds of port. Thank you Portugal, we will be back to see more.
Porto, Northern Portugal, Portugal tommcatt... city. Narrow streets tumbling down to the river with washing hanging from the windows. Lots of bridges, trams and traffic. One side of the river was the centre for the production of port. We went to one of them and sampled some of the product.
We stayed about 100 meters from the sea. Miles and miles and miles of golden sand and boardwalks. We did a lot of walking and a lot of cycling. Beautiful weather. We then moved onto Aveiro further down the coast.
... without the normal care and as we were going along we suddenly realized that the caravan had become detached. Fortunately the breakaway cable had worked. We reversed and reattached her, no harm having been done. We then had to do a 50 mile detour to get to the camp site. We spoke to other camper and caravaners who had had great ...
Braga, Northern Portugal, Portugal mikeandsuecuff... the better part of an hour looking for any restaurant that was opened. Our meals were : a tuna salad (a can of tuna, unrippened tomatoes and lettuce) and pork (a peice of pork, rice and french fries.) Long story short we were more then enthusiastic to get on the road in the morning to leave Porto behind
Porto, Northern Portugal, Portugal sofenjonOn the 18th of September I left Porto to cycle to a little village called Pedra Vedra, between Amarante and Villa Real. Since January this year two dutch friends (Leo and Joke) of mine are renting a cozy house here. Their aim is to start an self sustainable ecovillage in this area, which is integrated in the local community. At the moment they are looking for ...
Pedra Vedra, Portugal holadiyoWe left Viano Do Castelo on Sunday for the short (4hr)hop to Povoa Da Varzim and then planned to go on to Leixos to explore Porto. However on arrival here we were made so welcome and it was pointed out that we were only an hour from Porto by train. We decided to stay here. The marina has free internet and wireless internet, good showers etc and it was, yet again, about to celebrate a major festival. That night the local church was lit up ...
