... proceeded to act very annoyed about my 'lack of respect to the police'. Cue half an hour of discussion and apologies while they angled for a 'fine', or alternately a trip to the police station where they would 'wash my face to teach me respect' - still not sure what that means exactly, but I wasn't in a hurry to find out. Fortunately I'd met a Portuguese guy in the hostel and it was pretty helpful having someone to translate. Not a pleasant ...

... colour to the streets, the shoe sales on most street corners (new and second hand) and the many billboards in Portuguese that make for much amusement in the deciphering. I think often of the now distant memory of Portuguese lessons I had with the lovely Brazilian Carol, words looking very familiar but not close enough in my mind to grasp. ... 8221; Hopefully by the end of three weeks we will have improved a bit.

We have limited access to Internet but we have purchased a local SIM card and are now trying to set everything up so we can be more connected. It feels quite weird not being able to just load photos instantly to Facebook.

We leave on Thursday to Tofo on an eight hour bus ride so we will catch you at the next stop.

      Obrigado, Ciao!

My turn, another Wednesday so that means telling you about the banter last night at Gil Vicente, right? WRONG!

The Tuesday night consisted of discovering season 7 of How I met your Mother and saying good bye to the rest of the Brazilians. Ale had left on Tuesday morning and now the other 3 were leaving on Wednesday morning. It was sad to say goodbye, these guys had been the best fun in the house, teaching me very inappropriate Portuguese, cooking amazing food and going for drinks ...
