El Corniche Road Alexandria, Egypt, 3-548-0550
Arrived in Alexandria after a four hour trip where we noted lots of mosques and pigeon houses, an overturned container truck with cargo on the ground, numerous checkpoints and toll gates, a new city named 6th of October. And another called Sadat city. Lots of desert and what looked to be continuous roadworks. There were lots of judderbars in the highway to slow down the traffic flow too. Our driver got onto the Corniche in Alexandria and took us along to Montazah where we stayed at the Shera...

The sea is very rough. We saw Crete after lunch along with other small islands. We exchanged all our addresses and said our good byes as we are all disembarking at different times tomorrow. We are to arrive in Pireaus tomorow about 6am so will talk to you from Greece.
Alexandria, Egypt ewtodd... 2 Americans that were nice, we were found by all of them! Anonymous was kind of nice and so we started to make tracks to get out of there.... Next was the Library. This was an amazing structure that was built on levels with different subjects on each floor. It was very busy with tours and students working. Although we did see a couple of kids playing video games as they were obviously done with their homework ...
Alexandria, Egypt kcroone... me things to do tomorrow. Just relaxed and took in the scenery. Forecast to rain tomorrow so hopefully that won't spoil it too much. Haven't seen many other travelers and the drawback with my hotel is that there isn't a rooftop so not much opportunity to socialize. Kind of confined to my room. Which isn't particularly great. But perhaps I can latch onto some Japanese tourist perhaps, get in their way of a shot of a piece of rubbish, and have someone to chat to.
Alexandria, Egypt gazhamsPick up at hotel at 7 am. Short drive to Rameses (or is it Cairo?) station. Met there by Tarek who will be our guide for the next 3 weeks. He and I ride together to Alex. 2.5 hour train ride- we arrive about 10:30. I try to snap photos from the train window- with minimal success. General impressions on the ride: many run down high rise apt buildings; laundry hanging from balconies- but most bldgs. have quite a few tv ...
Alexandria, Egypt wwatling... to-nose on the street security behind each and taxis behind those traffic backed up in both directions. No place to go. The first thing that happens is the shopkeepers move their stuff off the street, next the taxis go by then the buses squeeze up against the buildings and between the parked cars. They squeeze past each other with not a quarter inch to spare and not a scratch anywhere. Then it was back to the ship to get ready to leave.
Alexandria, Egypt rwpek... to put a bit of culture back into Alexandria. The building was inspired by the original Great Library of Alexandria which was by far the largest and most important in the classical world. The external of the building is carved with letters and symbols from every known alphabet in the world, which is really very impressive. The new Bibliotheca has room for some 8 million books, how full that is at this point in time I am unsure (the place only opened ...
