Something pretty special happened last night. If you've seen The Way, you'll know that lots of people bring along a stone which has a special meaning to them, and they leave it at the Cruz de Ferro later on the Camino. Well I forgot, but as I went to bed last night I had a thought. At the bottom of my rucksack is a pair of light trainers with …

Woke up feeling the early symptoms of tonsillitis kicking in and the sharpness of the blisters pierce through my toe. Suffice to way, I wasn't too enthusiastic to walk 6 hours today. But as per unusual, we got up at 6:30am, had our jam and bread (which is no longer as satisfying as it was a few days ago) and were out the door by 7:15am. Tuesday 15 September Day 9: 27 kms
        LOS ARCO

Great sustanance. Peter, Keith and I were packed and ready to hit the road by 7.40am. The cool early morning made for great walking conditions. Just outside the village we stopped to look in the ruins of a 10th century hermitage - church shaped ...

Left the Gebala apartment at (almost) first light and had brekkers in a cafe on edge of town. Quickly started to climb as we left the town up towards a stunning monastery building, deserted since 1985 because of a lack of noviciates. Hard to believe that it's been empty for almost thirty years... it still looked incredible. Next door was the first of two or three wealthy wineries. A couple of hippie-like pereginos ...

... Other cheek? Such a minefield.

Anyway, massive digression. But yeah, love my personal space. A huge, huge problem in Latin America, I have to say. Because they love to invade personal space. For example, if you're working on a laptop, it's perfectly acceptable there for someone to come up behind you and lean over you with their face next to your face, reading your screen.

Aside from the invasions of privacy involved here, I also have to have to keep ramrod ...
