Spent our 25th Wedding anniversary here for 2 nights. From check in to check out was given 5 star treatment. Lovely cake in our room for our anniv & flowers covered our bed. Came back after dinner & beds turned down & flowers arranged in a heart on our bed. So many quiet places to chill & relax. Service was fantastic & happy hour btwn 6-7 1/2 price drinks. Had 2 great dinners at Mom tris kitchen as well.
Would love to stay here every year & hopefully we will return one day.
Undoubtebly the best place we have ever stayed.

Historical Traveler Reviews Mom Tri's Villa Royale Kata Beach
A beautiful peaceful hotel with suberb service
We stayed for 5 nights as part of a trip to celebrate our 25th Wedding Anniversary, and it was perfect.
We booked a "getaway" package which included airport transfers, a dinner for two, a massage and daily breakfast. The pick up went without a hitch, and on arrival at the hotel we were sat down, given a string of jasmine flowers and a drink, and the check in process was handled smoothly.
As we were shown to our room, a fellow guest said "you're going to love it", and we did.
The room was excellent, with teak floors and wood panelling, and our bed had the message "25th Wedding Anniversary" and a heart shape made from petals and leaves. Truly amazing. They had also baked a cake for us! Every afternoon we would return to the room to find little treats like chocolates or friut cake.
Due to our time of arrival, we ate in the hotel restaurant which is well respected and winners of several awards. It was easy to see why. The food was superb, and the service faultless.
One reason for choosing Phuket was to support the local community to recover from the tsunami, and consequently we ate outside the hotel once. The food was good, and the prices cheap, but it just could not compare with the hotel, and we ate in every other night.
Being out of season, the hotel was quiet, and the Kata and Kata Noi beach areas were deserted. I'm pretty sure we were the first customers in one of the bars at 8 pm. The waves were pretty impressive, and there were plenty of surfers in the water every day, even when the red flag was flying.
The hotel is not suitable for anyone with walking difficulties, as it's built on a hill and there are lots of steps, and it may not be lively enough for some people. For us, looking for a total chill out, it suited beyond our expectation. Every member of staff we encountered was friendly, and could not do more to help.
We look forward to the day we can go back there.
Quaint but shabby around the edges
Didn't actually stay here, but I don't think I would having seen it. Had a look around this place for a potential venue for a cocktail party. I had seen many good reports about this place including the Luxe guides but I wasn't overly unimpressed....talk of being hypnotized by its beauty are a bit over the top. Yes it has great views and it is very quaint but the place was a bit shabby around the edges. Anyway the food is very good and I can see why you would like this place, particularly if you want somthing traditonally thai, but nothing terribly chic of glamorous.
Could do better with some training and effort
Stayed 3 nights at the Villa Royale (7-10 April)at the end of a 14 day trip to Thailand. Room was stunning, as was the location. However we found the service was the poorest we encountered on our entire trip to Thailand. It lacked the warmth and professionalism that we had gotten so used to elsewhere. We enjoyed our stay at Villa Royale thanks to the positives, but would stay elsewhere next time because of the service issues.
Favourite stay in Phuket
Villa Royale is our favourite hotel in Phuket. The surrounding gardens are amazing and it has a real calming environment. The rooms are huge and very comfortable. The food at the Mom Tri Kitchen is outstanding with excellent wines. Our second visit already in 4 months!
My husband and I spent 7 days vacationing in Phuket this February. We booked Mom Tri's Villa Royale last minute on latestays.com. We read the reviews, but we were not sure what to expect. We wanted a luxurious place on a nice beach with excellent service and nice facilities. Well, Mom Tri's exceeded all our expectations! The place is absolutely gorgeous and so serene! It is located on a hill but only 2 minutes away from Kata Noi beach. The food in the restaurant is great, the spa is excellent, the facilities are beautiful. We are not sure why this hotel is not in the top 5 in Phuket. We have stayed at many great hotels, and we absolutely adored Mom Tri's.
Kata Noi beach is more secluded and less crowded than the other beaches in Phuket. It is 20-30 minutes away from Patong, if this is what you are looking for. Personally, we did not like Patong and were very happy to be back in Kata Noi.
There is some construction going on next to Mom Tri's but it will not affect your stay in any way.
We miss Mom Tri's and wish we were there right now! Enjoy your stay!
Charming, stunning and absolutely fabulous
As soon as you enter the property of this wonderful hotel you are hypnotized by its adorable decoration, its stunning atmosphere, its calmness, the view and the overwhelming friendliness from a charming staff. During our holidays in Phuket we also stayed at The Racha (Ko Raya Island) and The Chedi, but none of the other hotels, which are truly fantastic, would give you the intimate feeling and romantic touch as the Villa Royale. Sure, there are some flaws here and there, but that is the charm of this place. We stayed in room number 9, which is a deluxe studio with its own little terrace and with a magnificent view of the ocean. On the terrace we had an outdoor bathtub/shower which we used regularly and it was marvellous. The room was huge with a large sofa section, a fantastic bed and a great bathroom with another bathtub and separate shower room. The décor in the room can not be put in words, but just very tasty with a tempting Thai style, almost antique. The property is between Kata and Kata Noi beach, where the latter is the better. There is an easy path from the hotel leading directly to Kata Noi beach. Should you opt for Kata beach and perhaps dine at the great Mom Tri's Boathouse restaurant (but note the hotel is not as nice as Villa Royale), the hotel will happily drive you the few hundred meters distance (free of charge of course). In fact, if they had a car available we were taken almost anywhere. What a great service!
The hotel setting is stunning. The sunset if fabulous in particular sitting by the salt water pool (they have 2 fresh water swimming pools as well) or from the restaurant area. There are a lot of stairs and different pathways which is really charming but obviously not to recommend for someone who has a walking problem. There is a spa where they take very good care of you and it's such a relaxing atmosphere that even a hard Thai massage can make you fall asleep.
The restaurant is of top class (which, by the way, all Mom Tri's restaurants are) and the view is gorgeous. The wine list is extensive and the food is so enjoyable.
The service is top notch. An incredibly friendly and helpful staff. Always with a smile! It's an easy and intimate atmosphere although with a tremendous respect for the guests. As soon as you lay down on the sun bed by the pool located next to the outdoor bar, the waiter brings you a cold glass of water and a cold napkin. Throughout the day he makes sure your glass of water is full, making sure your body does not dehydrate in this warm climate.
The biggest flaw of this hotel is the small gym which should be equipped with more modern and better machines.
Would we stay here again? Without the smallest of a doubt!!
The best service we have ever received
We stayed at Mom Tri's Villa Royale the last week of Septemer and had a wonderful time. We were greeted at the airport and driven to the hotel. Upon check-in, we were taken to a couch to sit and brought fresh juice and ice cold hand towels while they took all of our check-in information. The front desk clerk then took us personally to our room which was amazing. The architechtural attention to detail in the room was beautiful. We were beyond impressed with the hotel.
The size of the hotel is quite small, but the amenities are numerous. There are 3 pools and plenty of loungers by the pools to accommodate all of the guests. We were there during Monsoon season so the hotel was not very full. There were only about 5 other couples that we saw there on a regular basis. It made you feel more like you were at your own personal resort instead of a hotel. While laying by the pool, the bartender made sure that you always had fresh ice water.
The food at the restaurant was far higher quality than we ever expected to find. The hotel is also considered a gourmet hotel so each afternoon they would leave a plate in our room with fresh made sweets on it - from pumpkin pie to more regional specialties. We also had a fresh fruit basket upon arrival. The hotel also provides bottled water in the room that is complimentary.
We traveled a good portion of Phuket and after seeing a lot of the hotels, we were VERY happy that we chose this one. It was very secluded on the cliff right above Kata Noi beach and had its own path down to the beach that the Kata Thani Hotel is on. You could also walk within 3-5 minutes into Kata. We have travelled the world and rate this hotel in our top 2 hotels that we have stayed at (the other being the Peninsula in Hong Kong). If you stay here, you are guaranteed not to be disappointed. We had been planning on staying at the Kata Thani up until the week before we left but due to construction at the Kata Thani we changed our minds and booked here at the last minute. While the Kata Thani looked nice, we were very glad we made the decision we did as we enjoyed being in a much smaller place for the privacy and quiet that it provided.
Wow, this place is amazing
OK, first of all, a bit of disclosure. We did not stay at MT Villa Royale. We ate there. We were staying next door at the Katathani Phuket Beach Resort. Which was fine and better for children and families. But we did avail ourselves of the babysitting service and eat one night at the Villa Royale - and I must say it is breathtaking, in a completely different class. The food was great, the service even better, someone was playing romantic music on a baby grand, and the view was of water crashing on the rocks below and across Kata Bay. We walked around the resort, which is built into the stone face of the hill, and were knocked over - it is 'cool', with boulders in the pool, little pathways leading through the vegitation... not your standard mass tourism fare. For those looking for a good family place at a reasonable price, the Kata Thani is fine. For those looking for the ultimate in upscale luxury, ready for a second honeymoon, Mom Tri's Villa Royale could be the place for you. This is definately a couples boutique resort for a week of relax and romance.
Truly a gem in Phuket!
Our visit over Easter 2005 took us once again to Kata beach, Phuket, Thailand. Many people are still very nervous to return to this beautiful part of the world but it is looking better than ever in this area. We are not strangers to Mom Tri's Villa Royale owned by the same owner of The Boathouse boutique hotel in the same town.
Villa Royale have extended their special property over the last year and the new deluxe studios offer excellent accomodation as an alternative to the larger rooms originally built. All are designed for absolute comfort. The location makes for beautiful seaviews and wonderful sunset photography. Service is outstanding from all the staff and there are more than enough to cater for all the guests there. Nothing is too much trouble and the smiles on the faces make you realize how important you are to them and ensure you will visit again. Food is wonderful and the cooking classes are well worth a visit. Truly a place to consider for couples for a romantic getaway.
