... the wrong side of a metal door. I was about to give up (and I have no idea what my next steps would have been) but finally someone on the intercom answered. They opened the gate and up a little flight of stairs I had the choice of 4 wooden doors, all of which were unlabeled. The directions said the hostel was on the first floor, but nothing on the first floor looked right. At that point, I felt like a moron knowing that ...

Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain and Canary Islands bisoder... from a bunch of people that are my own age, not from 2 parents and a son. I spent more time sight-seeing on sunday. The hostel let me keep my bag in the hostel after I'd checked out. I walked all of Las Ramblas. It was awesome. Full of street performers like magicians and live statues. There were shops for clothes, souvenirs and flowers up and down the middle island. And at the end of the street, to ...
Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain and Canary Islands angelalivengood... Sea. Then we boarded the cable car for the ride back down and got back on the tour bus. Our next stop was Port Olimpic. This is basically along the shoreline-kind of a beachy, tourist area with shops, sailboats and restaurants. I got majorly sunburned!!! No surprise there! While there, we found a nice restaurant we want to go back and try. Tomorrow is Christineś birthday and we have plans to watch a flamenco show tomorrow night!
Barcelona, Spain cathrynandchris... the main square where we had a beer at the Hard Rock Café (ok, a little cheesy, but they were playing good music and we don't know the city yet). After this we headed home to get some sleep at about 3am. We slept in until about noon due to our late night the day before. We headed down Las Ramblas (the main drag) and most of the stores were closed for Siesta (they all close their shops from about noon to 3 or 4 for a long lunch and a nap). It was still ...
Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain josh.lambden... from this wonderful city. I’m obviously dreading not being able to speak the language again (and not entirely thrilled about having work on Monday!) The flight is fine (Lufthansa is a nice airline) but the train was a little frustrating. With only about 20 minutes left in the journey we came to a dead halt in the middle of the darkness. While broadcasting information about what was happening in German I could only manage to figure out that there ...
Barcelona, Spain galaudiosa... other side was typical Gaudi dark mud brick look- but it looked like someone had built a massive Cathedral out of brown wax and then lite it and let it partially melt- or that someone made a Cathedral mil chocolate ice-cream cake and it had began to melt creating a strange effect that you have to see to believe. I then walked on to La Pedra- where l starred in amazement at the surreal roof of the Gaudi apartment with its really space-age and mask like, dark Vader look ...
Barcelona, Switzerland mimmy21... little souvenirs. The 1992 olympic site was also checked out and some good photos were taken, pretty amazing to be in the stadium where the flame was lit up by arrow! good memories and pretty stoked to be here right about now! Barca is an amazing place and there is so much to do, with it being so easy to get around by tube. Looking forward to Paris and beyond. See ya all soon. BW
Barcelona, Spain bjw1981... and the conductor checked to make sure no one was on it before racing the train off down the tracks, trailing smoke behind it. Anouncements then came on the intercom system saying that they were having 'technical difficulties'. Not wanting to take our chances on the metro and running short on time, we took a cab to Placa Catalunya and got the bus from there back to the airport. Close call- but we made it in time.
