... ren Kierkegaard, physicist Niels Bohr, author Hans Christian Andersen and artists Jens Juel, Christen Købke and CW Eckersberg. It's an interesting place to wander around - as much a park and garden as it is a graveyard. The last on my touristy highlights in Denmark for this week (more to come I promise) is Nyhavn. In a word - beautiful. Your feet fall on the coble street as the snow falls but it is a clear day. The historic buildings line up next to ...
Malmo, Sweden nomadicnikkiVelkommen til København! (Welcome to Copenhagen) Well I stepped off the plane into Copenhagen yesterday and into a winter wonderland with it snowing - only downer was an extremely heavy suitcase i managed through a train then a bus from the airport... my arm has now decided to go on strike considering the weight it was pulling! How do you pack a year of your life into a suitcase? I am living in a place called Keops Kollegium. I got to the ...
Copenhagen, Zealand, Denmark nomadicnikki... were Katie going as a Victoria Secret angel, Eric going as Hitman, Melinda going as Pocahontas and Barbara going as a bumblebee. Katie & I both had a 'de-robing' in which I took my shorts off to complete my costume & Katie took her **********. We all then headed off to Pink. Along the way, someone had to stop off to go to the bathroom in a classy looking bar. It was freezing cold outside and I was wearing very ...
Copenhagen, Zealand, Denmark tom_white_5588... giving the city a unity lacking in many where the old and new are combined haphazardly. Some of the city is built on landfilled marshes (much dating back centuries) and is interlaced with waterways. (As was St. Petersburg.) This allows for waterfront esplanades that encourage strolling and sidewalk cafes. The city's squares and esplanades (and some of the streets) are paved with Belgian block which while ...
Copenhagen, Zealand, Denmark lacasarodante... people. Doesn't take a math wiz to figure out they needed three or four more boats. We ended up leaving the harbor and hour and a half late, which meant we were to be late getting back to Southampton. The Captain said he would try to make up the time, but since we had a strong headwind, he didn't think he could do it. Tonight was the second formal night, but Jeff and I decided not to dress up again. We had a very good meal at the Italian Café. The Antipasti was ...
Helsingborg, Sweden simru12... but a little smaller and less touristy. We spent half the day walking around and doing a little souvenir shopping. We also got some Swedish ice cream which was delicious!! It was a wonderful day because it wasn't hard for us to get there and we had a great time just relaxing. After a while we decided to take a train back to Copenhagen. Here we spent some more time souvenir shopping and roaming the city. We came back to Korsor early that ...
Copenhagen, Zealand, Denmark kellyandjess... but they send a different message when traveling than the double fanny packs do. Karla went to look at their luggage tags to find out where they were from so we could make fun of their state. She was obviously too conspicuous because the woman saw Karla stare at her luggage and quickly flipped the tag around. Karla was a bit taken back, she wasn't threatening the lady, just wanted to see where she was from. Turns out these paranoid travelers just arrived from British Columbia. I ...
Copenhagen, Zealand, Denmark tbassplayer... those of you that fit into neither category I will, in a civilised fashion, request that you discontinue your unwelcomed reading forthwith...avert your eyes...now) that my landlord, Tom, recently turned 59 into 60 with regards to his age. To celebrate, he hosted a breakfast/lunch (if only there was a word for this meal) at a place called Salg, I think...well whatever it was called it was the Danish word for 'hunger'. Needless to say I was ...
Copenhagen, Denmark lordcool... once again joking here). Seriously, I am very intrigued by Danish and am trying to speak it every chance I get. Oh yeah, random as occurence I should definitely mention lest you endure the entirety of your lives unaware of this mid-boggling coincidence. Walking back from the market two days ago I began to enter my street and absentmindedly noticed a couple of guys standing on the corner. After a few more steps I hear a (COARSE LANGUAGE ALERT) "No ...
Copenhagen, Denmark lordcool... a set three course meal. Really good food, and cute place. The next day, we embarked on a tour of town, and started out with a walk through the Kastellet, down through the Royal Palace to Nyhavn, and brunch at Zeleste in their great back patio. I introduced Sarah to the fantastic Danish brunch, with little bits of cheese, eggs, pancakes, fruit, salmon, etc. all on a plate. We then spent the afternoon wandering down Stroget, through the Latin Quarter ...
