Ploiesti, Romania fr.imobiliara... The centerpiece was a Japanese Samurai sword that had beheaded royalty. After the castle tour, Dan and I went our separate ways. He was headed down to Bucharest for a few nights then to Veliko Tornovo, Bulgaria in his ambitious quest to visit every country in Eastern Europe. His proudest accomplishment thus far was outsmarting the boarder guards in Minsk, Belarus and gaining entry despite not having a visa.
My next destination was a ...
... leaving the mass in the church and responded to the attack on the walls and in its towers.
The defensive galleries are very well preserved and can be visited.
Also you can visit not only the church, but all the rooms of the citadel - storage rooms, workshops, school.

Gustavo needs to return the car in Brasov by noon while I am moving North. He has a couple of hours so we get up early and do the quick tour. Great small town but has major road reconstruction under way. Tractors are digging everywhere.
It is a Saxon town which means German is spoken in many places such as sermons in the church. It has lots of pretty buildings, nice fortification. A climb to the top of the tower offers great views of the city ...
The train is about an hour late, killing our attempt to see Rasnov castle that afternoon. Instead, we explore Brasov. I had been expecting it to be well into the mountains but instead it is along a flat plain at the base of the mountains, much like Denver. It is a great mix of old town, good restaurants and bars. I treat myself to a really good bottle of Romanian wine (yes the whole bottle since Gustovo does not drink, as I found out).

Targu Secuiesc, Romania hello-ulli... show for it. Brasov itself is nice, too, with lots of tourists and services to service them. I'm not the only one who’s noticed its Latin connections. There are even Andean musicians there, playing for tips and selling CD’s. Rooms are so scarce that one lady hangs out at the bus and train station ...
Brasov, Transylvania, Romania hardiekIn 1998 we paid £280 for a week's skiing in Poina Brasov complete with ski hire, lift pass and tuition! The transfer from the airport was long and arduous but the hotel was a pleasant surprise. Our room had MTV and some kind of animal skin blanket which weighed a ton and pinned you to the bed at night. The town of Brasov itself is a bit grim and we heard rumours of tourists disappearing on nights out never to be seen again. As far as the skiing went ...
