What could this possibly be. =) He opened the chest top of the chest and pulled out the three drawers and there were all these tiny desserts. our waiter informed us it was a dessert appetizer. I could definitely get used to this. Canada certainly doesn't have pre dessert desserts but I would love to start that tradition! A Day with the Turtles at Akumal

We were headed for Akumal with Aude today, a short drive south from Playa, to dive and snorkel with turtles. Apparently the name of the place is derived from the Mayan words - Aku 'turtle' and Mal ' the place of'. The foreshore is a feeding ground for the turtles and the nearby reef is used as a resting station after feeding - we were guaranteed to see a turtle.

I really want to hire a convertible jeep to drive around the island so may do that when Mark and Efrosini arrive later in the week. Tomorrow I think we will head to the ...

... playa at about 2.30, and checked into our awesome hotel. It is so Mexican! It is really colourful and spacious, with saddles for seats in an unused bar downstairs! For M$600 a night it is a much better deal than the last place. It rained again (surprise surprise) while we were exploring the town so we hurried into a restaurant. It was pretty expensive but we had a great lunch- best corn chips yet. We spent the afternoon on the beach, and saw about 4 weddings! ...

25 July Take two on the mission to find the zoo, and we did! We were so excited that it almost stopped me being offended at the entry fee - 300 pesos - like some of our high prices for attractions at home,. still we both had wanted to visit and we had persevered to find the place so we had to go in! The birds were lovely - I never knew that flamingos were that pink up close and personal, they were almost glowing. There were also an array of different parrots, ...
