More reasons why I need a rich husband...

The Comoros is freaking expensive. Really nice, but crazy expensive. The only way I would come back is with lots of money. Examples: Zanzibar: for 20 bucks Rose and I get a double room with fans, mosquito nets, water elecricity, and a nice roof top terrace from which we enjoy our free giant breakfast in the mornings. Madagascar: for about 9 bucks Rose and I get a double bed in a bungalow surrounded with sand, with fan, mosquito net, open shower but hey there is ...

Boating misery

... out from between the two benches I was sleeping under trying not to wake Rahma who was sleeping (and drooling) above me, and picked my way through the other people on the floor not being able to avoid getting coughed on by one of them with a particularly bad sounding cough. I guess I couldn't avoid tuberculosis forever. Once on the deck I climbed down the stairs trying to avoid being thrown from the boat and throwing up; the rocking was ...

Time to leave the Comoros Islands

Tomorrow, we set off for Madagascar, by PLANE. We've had quite the little adventure in this odd destination, but I'm pretty thrilled to move on to my dream destination. Overall, we've had a good time, but of course there was what Marta and I refer to as a "seagull moment" (see last entry). It was only on the fourth day that I could manage to stand long enough to brush my teeth without getting queasy and needing to recover for a few hours. My first few days were planned around conserving energy to make my daily trip to the bathroom. Mix for four days and four nights. It was certainly an adventure and a cultural ...

We climb 1900 metres up and 700 back in one day!

... down the west coast through wind and rain, to swing south and land at the last moment. The shoreline is jagged lava, with clean green sea, and a surf. The hillside which isn't lava is covered in green vegetation, with a lot of coconut palms. In immigration, we are forced to fill in a visa application form, even though we show our visas, but some sort of English speaking expediter shepherds us through without any extra charges. They ...

A la recherche des cocos fesses

Il semble que le mauvais temps nous suive. Pas grand chose à voir. Les Comores ressemblent beaucoup aux Seychelles. L'île semble très pauvre. Les gens sont gentils, mais quelque chose manque. It looks like the bad weather follows us. Not much to see. The Comores look a lot like the Seychelles. The island seems very poor. The peoples are nice but something is missing.
