... you could see the change in the buildings (Swiss buildings look more modern and newer) after half an hour snow had been spotted outside the coach on the road. The mountains grew larger and snow-capped and the roads slimmer and more windy. ... that when buying souvenirs and lunch - things could be pricey here. We took a small walking tour around the city, the highlight being Lucerne's cover walking bridge. Surrounded by the charm of the city, decorated with bright, colorful flowers, and framed with swans, it was a lovely walk over the river for everyone. After a little free time, it was time to climb Mt. Pilatus. Frau sat this one out, as last time she had a little difficulty with the gondola ride and heights. ...

Today we visited the most famous cheese factory in Switzerland, Emmentaler dairy. Which took us on a journey back in time, starting with an original 18th century cheese dairy. We had very good intentions to hike in the alps today. Our feet, however, were saying "no freakin' way!" We decided to listen to our feet and spend the day at the beach in Lucerne (see pic)! We were able to swim out 100 metres into the clear, blue, refreshing water to bask in a 360 view of the alps - Mount Rigi to our left and the glacier peaks of Mount Pilatus to our right. About 10km into the return journey on of the guy's chain broke and he was stranded. The hostel came and collected him but didn't have room for Nick and I so we kept cycling.
