After a quite lovely night of quite reasonable weather - well above what we had been subjected to for the past week or so of camping - we rose to the start of a reasonable day! Showers each (the first hot shower that we actually had to pay for - although it was cheap) and then back to the tent for a coffee/tea and we were ready to begin the day. Not much longer and we had the whole kit and kaboodle packed up and in the red rocket. On the road, but only ...

... highlands of Nauders, my final town here in Austria. It's kind of a surreal feel, after hours of nearly impenetrable cliffs and fierce river gorges--thinking I'd left all land suitable for human life behind--to find a peaceful idyllic landscape high up on the mountains--a Shangri-La of sorts. ... well... I head out to grab a pizza for supper in the cozy little main street area, and call it a night. Next morning, I enjoy a nice breakfast served by the family running the hostel. So I get another taste of life in an Austrian home--sort of. Next I head out and I'm able to appreciat the town a bit more. There's a beautiful bridge that you reach by going under a ...

Day 284 4 hrs, 12.5 kms Day Totals: 16 hrs, 37.5 kms In the town of Pfunds up ahead there's supposed to be a hostel and I'm determined to get there tonight. But I still can't pass up the chance to do a quick parkbench concert in the riverside town of Tosens as I pass through. I then find a quiet country path on the other side of the stream and continue my sprint to ...

      1736. Going Shopping

... time again. Prutz is a pretty run of the mill looking town, where I can do some shopping. It looks like a bit of a "base camp" for folks hiking/riding/skiing up in the mountains. In the plaza, a young fellow joins me for my strum session. "How do you like living here?" "There aren't many jobs here--and they're only part time. Also, I have mental problems, so I can't work a lot of ...
