Got up to another really tasty breakfast had a terrible nights sleep as some spanish girls that were staying in our Riad got up with the call to prayer at 5am and they were going off on a trip to the desert! You can go on a camel to the desert and stay overnight sleeping in a traditional tent and eating traditional food something that we would have done had we had more time.

We decided to go for a little walk around and try and buy ...
Marrakech, Marrakech-Tensift-Al Haouz, Morocco traceybelle... out, a bit of a swim out to the "Castle in the Sand" (a natural stone relic immortalized in a tune by Jimmi Hendrix in the 60's who used to hang out - no doubt in a tie-dyed T-shirt - nearby).

Prudently turning away from such georecklessness (nay possibly a watery geocide!), my guide Mohammad instead turned our trusty "chevals" inland at my direction, as I waved my GPSr and vainly tried to explain (in French!) the ...
Essaouira, Morocco globalgirl... 40 years I’m talking about, 40 years I tell you - of not eating fish and somehow it was washed away in an instant – no idea why, but I just pick it up and start eating it. Before I know it Yassir has then placed a sardine in front of me and I just start eating it – next a prawn and I honestly thought that would be where it ended, but no, I pick it up, shell it and down it goes!!! Before I know it I’m chomping away on all of it – several prawns ...
Essaouira, Morocco travelmonsterSo, we're off to the coast today – we get up, have some more delicious Moroccan pancakes and then walk from the riad to a main(ish) road to get a taxi to take us and our luggage to the bus station. The smallest, ramshackled taxi in the history of taxis comes along and just as I’m thinking no way we’ll all fit in there – luggage en all, the drivers squashed our bags in and slammed the boot shut – one of the bags being on the ...
Essaouira, Morocco travelmonsterAt 7 A.M. we already left the hotel to move north to the ancient port town Essaouira. It was a Pirate port and has a lot of history to tell and to show us.

The trip was much more dangerously now. The Serpentine is so scary, and the driver of the bus drives like a mad man, but of course, he's just very experienced, but sitting near the window made some people almost sick. The road took ...
Essaouira, Morocco qbcleBreakfast was surprisingly wonderful in my little hotel along the road, I got a very nice French Crepe, a thin crispy pancake, and a fruit salad. The bus to my next destination Essaouira left at 8 am but I didn't want to spoil the day with the sound of an alarm clock. I was sure there would be some other possibility to get there, and I was right. It was the time of some mutton-eating festival in ...
Essaouira, Morocco sabaidii... are red; or coloured from the red end of the spectrum. In Essouria, the primary colour is blue; more specifically white buildings with blue highlights (window frames, doors etc). This reflects Essouria's bond with the ocean. Red Mosques was replaced with white ones. Similarly the crop being grown changed. Marrakech is Orange and Olive central; the Essouria region is famous for the production of Argan oil.We are staying in a Ryad within the Medina. Our room is on the top ...
Essaouira, Morocco pgdavis... as we follow our touts through anorexic crooked alleyways. But the touts deliver the goods, and find us a wonderful riad at a good price and secure parking for the bikes. We are truly thankful for their help, and feel already that Marrakesh has a different vibe to the other Moroccan cities we have visited so far. Quick wash and its down to the square to look around and grab something to eat. When you enter Djemaa el-Fna you finally realize what all the fuss over this city is ...
