Palace of Knossos and Aghios Nikolaos

... place. It was great to be back on Crete (my first visit was in 1984) because the island holds endless appeal: vestiges of Minoan civilization, which flourished on Crete some 3,000 to 4,000 years ago and is one of the most brilliant and amazing cultures the world has ever known, abound at Knossos and other archaeological sites around the island. Invaders and occupiers – Roman colonists, the Byzantines, Arab invaders, Venetian colonists, and ...

... just say! Don't just point in any ******n direction and send people on a wild goose chase! Breathe... Luckily, it just so happened that after we had a bite to eat and set off on the search again we found the hotel! Geez! Bout time!

So we pretty much stayed the night then flew out the next morning - that part was really good! Except for when we were in ****** Iraklio airport and all the power went out. Nobody so much as batted an eyelid. Typical.

Minoans! (and why can't the land stop moving?)

... of a water flushing toilet.

Today we will wander around the old city with trips to the open air market and the archeological museum.

The ferry and airplane rides seem to affect my (Nancy's) inner ear in a way that on land, everything continues to move. It is annoying and made hiking up and down rocky hillsides a little extra challenging. Hopefully it will quiet down now that there are nop more ferry rides.

Knossos

... Greek story tellers - the Minoans were highly organized and technologically advanced some 4000 years ago, and well before the Greeks. The palace grounds were bought from the Turks in 1900, by a British archaeologist, Harold Evans, and he spent the next 35 years investigating and restoring (controversially) the ruins. Well done Evans and another yah boo sucks to Lord Elgin.

We went to one of the beach front bars near Leoniki Residence for cocktails. The view at ...

Somewhere above Italy

... My iPod decided it had enough and decided it didn't have aenough energy left =( me being rather annoyed since I had fully charged it that same night << (btw I think we are just flying over Garda Lake in Italy!). Took a stroll outside and by the time we ate our salads and I looked on the information board it said that our flight/gate was closing! Now we looked about 12 ...

Never ever

... to report and this was at 19.15hrs but he was informed at 05.00hrs now you get your conclusion. I strongly believe that the raid was organized with somebody from the hotel and the thief's used a narcotic gas and a fake key to make the entry. My advice ...do not go in Greece especially in the place I m talking about you will have no security and nobody will care about you, the tourism agencies are selling just stories from the books in this case.
Respect
We've Been Ruined

... Finally, at almost ten min. after, an apologetic woman arrived on foot with a coffee in her hand saying the coffee machine was having trouble! Those laid-back Greeks! The museum was well-organized and worth the wait. The next leg of the trip will be remembered as "the ruins". Over two days, we visited four different ancient ruins. The first was Agia Triada, a Minoan village excavated by the Italians from 1902-1914. The village was first constructed ...

Heraklion, Crete

Through a series of unfortunate events, this is the sole remaining picture of our magical day in Crete. In all of my genius I deleted the Crete and Turkey photos by accident and boy was that ever a sad day. Of course the first thing I did after getting home from the cruise was upload the Sbux series to Facebook, so now the Starbucks photo is the only one left of Crete :(

Chilling out in Crete

... over the PA at the bus station, we eventually got on the right bus and headed off. Unfortunately, we had no idea where our hotel was, so optimistically got off at what appeared to be the middle of the village, and started walking. Two hours later, still hauling all our gear, we managed to sift through enough of the contradicting directions the well-intentioned locals had given us to eventually find our hotel at ...
