Historical Traveler Reviews Moevenpick Hotel Mactan Island Cebu Lapu Lapu

      Boring Place

      from

This place would be absolutely boring if you do not bring along a partner. The room is good but very OVERPRICED. The pool and the beach are absolutely pathetic. The F&B is all Bling-Bling ... if you get the point.

The only good thing about this hotel is the spa. Do not fail to try having a foot massage in their foot massage area. Absolutely stunning views of the beach from their floor to ceiling windows. One of the best foot massage views in the world!!!

Should not be allowed to be a resort

      from

I booked late for my christmas holidays so both Plantation bay and Shangri-la is full. Judging by the price of Hilton I thought it would at least be comparable, but I thought wrong. There is only tiny pool with a small beach. The restaurant is not up to standard. I even had no hot water for the first night. The spa was OK but still overpriced for what it has to offer. Terrible experience

      A nice, clean hotel

      from

I stayed in this hotel with my wife (she is from cebu, I am british and we live in the UK)for one night. The room was reasonably priced as we asked for local rates so paid around half the published dollar rate. The room itself was very nice, clean and spacious with a good bathroom. Personally I thought the drinks and food were a bit on the expensive side but not excessive compared to other resorts on mactan island. The pool and beach were pretty nice except maybe a bit small although not at all overcrowded.

I would recommend this hotel for a short stay rather than a long holiday.

      This is a Joke

      from

Two girlfriends and I stayed at this hotel for one night at the rate of close to USD200 recently as Shangri-la down the road was full. It was a great disappointment. The hotel occupies one of three condominium blocks. It shares the main lobby, the pool, gym and other common areas with the other two blocks of condominium. The pool and gym are pretty small. I am not sure how this will work out when the condominiums are fully occupied. The main lobby as with the rest of the development was pink furnished with wrought iron garden furniture covered with faux leather. We did not expect that from a five star hotel. The check in counter is located at one side of the main lobby. This part and the rest of the hotel are decorated in modern Zen-like style. You would have thought the hotel suffers from schizophrenia. It only got worse for us. It took five calls to the front desk to have the third bed set up even though we had booked weeks in advance. It took three calls to have the third set of towel delivered at 11pm even though we checked in at 2pm. When we decided to take a shower, the water came out salty. The hotel uses seawater for its supply but the plant fails to desalinate the water. When we decided to go into Cebu City, we were informed that the hotel would not call a taxi for us due to liability issue but we were free to take any cab which happened to come into the hotel. As a lawyer myself, if the hotel is worried about the risk of kidnapping or terrorism (which is a real risk in this part of the world), I do not see how the above arrangement will reduce the hotel's exposure. We were forced to take the hotel's limousine at an inflated price. Finally, one of us got food poisoining at the last lunch we had at the hotel. The impression I got is: a local developer has built three blocks of condominiums but for some reason decided to convert one into a hotel last minute. Minimal expenses were incurred to raise one of the blocks to hotel standard. I wouldn't mind the above mishaps so much if I am staying at a one or two star establishment and had paid a lot less even then I have never had to take a salt water shower at backpacker hostels I had stayed at. But to charge USD200 for such standard of service is appalling and a total rip off. The hotel management was very apologetic when we voiced our complaint but that still does not solve the fundamental problems faced by this hotel. The owner needs to sit up and listen if they want this hotel to survive.

4 Days 3 Night stay at Hilton Cebu Reosrt & SPA

      from

I had 4 days 3 nights staying at Hilton Cebu Resort & SPA. The hotel is extremely small. The swimming pool is extremely small & small and of course the beach is very small. There is only just a corner of beach. Pls dont expect there is will large and long beach. There are lack of entertainment and faciltieis. The are not many choices of resturant you can choose. The SPA treatment is OK in term of the price. The enviroment is OK, you wont feel so great feeling. They dont have enough tourist information for us to go around the city. They dont have shuttle bus to and go to city or island hopping. However, the service from this Hotel is excellent. I just would recommend to go there to stay at most 3 days & 2 nights. If you are get used the resort like Bali , or Thailand, then you should forget to choose this hotel.

      Family Resort Too!

      from

In early June of 2005, I brought my entire family to Cebu prior to a grand family reunion. We spent the first night at the Hilton Cebu Resort and we all had a great time. The hospitality crew were very giving and made us feel truly special with their timely assistance. My wife and I enjoyed the beach while our 2 daughters enjoyed the kids' pool. The lifeguard was friendly to us and paid close attention to the kids. I was able to use their modern gym facilities while my wife enjoyed her spa massage. We requested for a late checkout and the manager accommodated our request graciously. We loved the breakfast buffet. They also have a modern business center with broadband internet. Their brand of hospitality and service truly represents the Filipino spirit of warmth and excellence! I do want to recommend to management to involve the surrounding community in keeping their environment clean since it is quite a contrast to see the manicured lawn and white sands by the beach while the immediate vicinity outside of the resort had a lot to be desired in terms of cleanliness and being environment-friendly. This Mactan landmark is worth visiting again.

Mother's Day Surprise at the Hilton

      from

What a day to surprise your mom. So on May 8, 2005, I called up my mom to attend a special worship service and told her that she's gonna be picked up by my friends in Cebu. Little did she know I was calling from the Hilton Cebu. She was wildly surprised that I personally picked her up with the help of the hotel's car service. We had lunch at the Hilton Cebu's Vanilla Beach Cafe which was made more special because of the staff's close attention to our dining needs. Our hotel room was on the 14th floor and overlooking the beautiful Mactan channel. My friends joined me later for a cup of coffee at their cafe at the lobby. The landscaped garden by the beach was awesome especially at sunset. Staying here also met my business needs with their modern business center. Hotel staff provided the hospitality that was heartwarming, friendly and sincere. I will be coming back to this hotel with my entire family, God willing. It was simply memorable.

      Fantabulous Vacation!!

      from

I, my husband Tony, my sister Maria and her family stayed for 3 nights and 4 days at luxurious Cebu Hilton. The staff were very polite, friendly and provided excellent customer service. At Vanilla Cafe which was a fine dining expeience, the food was excellent, we were also serenaded by the quartet who featured a female singer. She has a voice that is so soothing and caresses you. The staff went above and beyond when one waitress even danced with my four year old nephew who loved music and dancing. This gave my sister and her husband the opportunity to enjoy their dinner in a fine ambiance. Though the atmosphore was definitely fine dining, it was not pretentious nor snooty at all.

If you want to be pampered and treated like VIPs, I would recommend Cebu Hilton. The luxurious linens, pillows and over all amenities is for a weary workaholic to indulge in. The interior design is retro and zen like. Very relaxing experience indeed not to mention the extensive and delicious breakfast buffet included in the stay!

I just love it!! I am back in California and we are missing Cebu Hilton!!

We concluded that if one has no business in Manila, fly straight to quiet Cebu and experience Cebu Hilton's one of a kind experience!! Cebu is being serviced by international carriers!

      Your Hilton in the Philippines

      from

My husband, daughter & I spent a special Valentine's evening at newly opened Hilton Cebu. We were immediately ushered in by hospitable hotel staff like VIPs. The food was great, the music and the romantic ambience by the landscaped beachfront were mesmerizing. The rooms were beautiful with spectacular beach views. They took care of us from start to finish. What an unforgettable evening!

The second thing of consequence was the sheer magnitude of Cebu port, again a place hardly any westerners have probably heard of. Huge container terminal ...

We charge only 2000 pesos, they gushed; we visit two islands, stay as long as you like, you do snorkeling and everybody happy. They showed us the bangka, assured us of good diving equipment, pocketed a 500 pesos down-payment and arranged to meet us at the hotel reception at 1000 the following morning.

      Lush green and chocolate hills

... is dotted with these chocolate hills all over them, in fairly sporadic formats.

They take their name of the Chocolate Hills because the December to May dry season turns their grassy coatings into chocolate brown scrub. Scientists believe that the 1,268 chocolate hills, ranging from 40m to 120m high, were raised in the way they have because of uplifting coral-reef deposits that subsequently eroded and weathered. Whereas legend has it that the hills are ...
