We have now learnt two things about the weather in this part of Italy- it knows how to be hot and it knows how to rain.
We managed to get under way soon after 08:00. The first part of the ride was on nice quiet roads through lovely countryside up to a little way beyond the lovely hilltop village of San Gimignano. We had an elevenses stop of spinach tortillas at San Gimignano.

... had happened but to no avail. Although the conductor did graciously bump the fine down to just 40 euro instead of 80. Problem was we only had 15 euro cash and they didn't take credit card.
