... they are still at the age that they can be taught that lying is wrong and if you do it, your nose will grow but sometimes adults tell ‘white lies’ which is ok!!!

No luck (and no we are not telling a white lie) because all the shops were closed! We are on the Continent remember and it was 4pm with hundreds of tourists walking past so why would they be open? ...

... few people make as much as we do. And so far, I don't think they have the same variety or quality. Except wine. Even the cheapest red wine is good - or so we have found. John and I were the chefs tonight. I felt some pressure as I didn't have any recipes. I am just a middling cook, and I wanted it to be somewhat interesting. The kitchen is limited in terms of equipment, I've not used gas before, the slow burner would not light. We did not blow up. Done was a first in Italy ...

I must say, the shopping in Lucca would be so fantastic if I was shopping. The leather bags I have glimpsed ( as that is all I can do at this stage) look sensational as do the clothes shops. There are loads of beautiful looking jewellery shops and the food is really really good. There is a lot of variety, many different pastries, sweet and savoury tarts, homemade ...

took an early morning train to Firenze (Florence). went to the Accademia to see Michelangelo's David. Wow! Much bigger than we'd imagined. took the Hop-on Hop-off bus to some of the outlying sites, including Palazzo Michelangelo where there is a great view of Firenza. Ponte Vecchio with the old shops.
