After about 30 minutes of trying to get the perfect shot it was starting to drizzle so we looked at the other two buildings in the piazza which had entrance fees so we didn't do in. ... prominent Lucchese families) and Torre Guinigi is the most important tower in Lucca and one of the few remaining within the walls. It is known for the garden that grows on the top. This was a very easy climb. The stairways were wide and not too steep. The rooftop, with it's shady grove of trees, provided a wonderful 360 degree view of Lucca. It wasn't too busy but on our way back down we could tell siesta was over as more people were out and about.

NORTHERN TUSCANY - August 9th was another travel day from Bolzano to Lucca in Northern Tuscany. A long 8 hours of many train changes, but a great finish in the mediaeval walled town of Lucca with paths along the wall you can actually ride on. The wall is so wide that there is enough room for a very wide pedestrian path with small parks lining both sides of the path. Great for an evening stroll or a gentle bike ride. ... came to spend a few days with us as she is living in the UK. We visited Montacatini Terme (once again) then the furnicular up to Alto Montacatini - great view. Brinelle enjoys photography so she enjoyed the monuments & historical churches of Lucca and finished her visit with a bit of retail therapy..... we had a lovely few days together. Well, we can't help but feel that we have cheated ourselves of some time in Lucca. After wandering around the town last night and this morning, can't help but feel that another couple of days in this area would have been great. Why, H even found out that the Piaggio (Vespa) original factory and a museum is located just down the road at Pontedera, she's devastated that she hasn't got time to visit! Our B & B ...
