... were introduced to our Vietnamese guide who calls himself Michael to make it easier for tourists. The bus journey lasted 3 and half hours - with a short stop at a shop/cafe. The girls were filling us in on Vietnam, Cambodia and the islands until we finally reached Halong Bay just before 1pm. The views from the dock even looked amazing so we were excited to get out on the bay. The outline of the day was cruising around the islands, ...

... a nice restaurant recommended in a guidebook we've picked up - a much needed purchase explaining everything we'll need for Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos and Northern Thailand. ... place in Vietnam. If you still want to experience it then I suggest finding accomodation in Halong Bay and doing it yourself by hiring out a boat. The cave is nice along the way. Catba island is nice for a day. You can do a coastal walk from the beach in Catba.

All in all, I found it to be a waste of money and wouldnt recommend Halong Bay or if you really want to do a day tour for 22 USD

... shell was almost lacy and so flakey! We capped off the night drinking and socializing with our table. Our 8 person table was an eclectic mix of ethnicities. They were mostly much older than us but the couple from New Zealand still acted our age (they started the boat jumping). The Japanese man at our table spoke little English but was so smiley and happy. He was also generous and shared a nice bottle of Japanese whiskey with the whole table! So far a great cruise ...
