Today is my birthday and departure day for the cruise. It began very early with calls from the east coast. People had forgotten that we were on the west coast, but thanks for the good wishes even at 5 am. The sign up for the shuttle to the cruise ship, literally across the street, began at 7:50. On the weather front we were still seeing big variances in temperatures. Below 1000m ASL it was often hitting the mid 30s by midday, but once up in the mountains this could drop substantially and at night was becoming decidedly chilly.
