Diego resigns, we visit ruins and drink tequila

... I used my trusty Spork and Swiss Army knife. When we went round the museum later it was really quiet, then Keith (old Australian guy on the tour) did a massive burp, which only I found amusing. The other thing I did in Oaxaca was volunteer at a charity that pays for about 600 kids to go to school, who wouldn't otherwise be able to afford it. The kindergarten kids did a hilarious dance in the courtyard as it was the anniversary of Mexican independence. I also went to the museum which ...

Tequila, it makes me happy

... invited me to the guys daughters birthday party ìn Acapulco in December, which might have been cool but simply not possible. Had a few beers in the bar, of course, but took it fairly easy as I had booked a bus to Oaxaca the following afternoon.

Wednesday 2nd December:

Had a relaxing morning and got a cab to the bus station. First asked the `official` taxi stand but they tried to fleece me for 10 bucks so walked a bit and flagged one down for half the price.

... so we could see the lights of the city as we drank our beer. From that height, we could see all the mountains surrounding the city. Silly tourist me, I was walking around in shorts and a tank top and at night the temperature dropped under 65F. I didn't think Mexico would be cold?!
We met with Buzz's brother and his wife, Rojalio and Rosia, for dinner and ate tacos. Mexican tacos are definitely very different than in the states.

... The National Museum of Art was also a noteworthy place. It has a reception hall with the most intricately painted ceilings imaginable. There were all kinds of art in the museum from old mexican paintings, to old photos, to Catholic religious art, to modern art - all it needed was a little facebook graffiti and it would be good to go! We had fun doing watercolor painting in the little kid room as well. People watching outside the Museum on a Saturday afternoon is also a recommended ...

Mexico City - having spent plenty of city time recently the plan was for a short stay, just long enough to see the major attractions. I had been through the city twice before, once sleeping on the floor of the airport with the cockroaches and once overnight (in a hotel this time!) coming back from Baja California. Descending to the city from the surrounding hills, the yellow smog layer was still thick as previously, though thankfully not so bad as when the put out the warnings that it ...

... majesty of the Calle de los Muertos (Street of the Dead) - originally 4km long and surrounded by temples, palaces and platforms. When other settlements in the area diminished, Teotihuacan became a religious and economic center, controlling the region's production of obsidian (the black stone used to make weapons and utensils). Unlike many other contemporary cities in Mexico, you will not see any murals in Teotihuacan that depict human sacrafice ...
