We continued our ride through the park and stopped for lunch at a very quirky cafe in Redcrest located beside a treehouse that resided within the base of a redwood - all a bit touristy but gives you some sense of their size. And on an even brighter note, we became really good friends with Gene and Janet, relatives somehow with somebody in this group but blood never matters, they're close family after this hellish job! ...

... off and we headed to Black Sands Beach, the gateway to the Lost Coast 24 mile backpacking trail. We spent a beautiful afternoon watching the waves crash on the shore and reading our books. We had the beach pretty much to ourselves the whole time, except when one local strolled by and said, "It's not too often you get to wear a bathing suit in Shelter Cove!" With this comment we smiled, realizing we really lucked out on the weather. When the sun ...
