... We stopped in a tiny cafe and ordered pizza for brunch. What a disappointment! We think it may have been frozen. Hard to believe, the worst pizza we ever had was in Italy! Later that afternoon, after exploring the city, we had pizza again, and this time it was one of the best we had ever had, and in a charming sidewalk restaurant.

What a day - if I'd had a Euro for every time I muttered "wow" under my breath I would be a rich man.... and something more to describe to Steve than "field of rice on the left, field of rice on the right..."! We were under way around 08:00 this morning. On the whole the roads have been a ...

Today we decided to be kind to ourselves and depart from the guidebook, spliting the next stage into two days. It would have been grueling otherwise: a 12 mile trek with 3000 feet of elevation gain. Instead we we had just a three and half hour walk to our next destination.

Along the way, a light sprinkle of rain ...

Wondering again if we can finish...

... in a bad mood by the time we reached Refugio Bertone to take a break. We sat and sipped a coke in the beautiful setting and for the first time since the beginning of the hike we wondered again if we were up to finishing the whole hike.

Thankfully from Bertone to our next bed at Refugio Bonatti, the trail was gentle and forgiving. And it helped that some of the views were the ...
