Mark & Ave Maria

Somehow wherever I am on holiday I think about Mark. Perhaps it's because you notice couples holding hands on the beach or it's just part of the holiday romance ...

Never ever

In this hotel my family and another 3 foreign family were attacked by thief's over the last night just few hours to go home, I was more than disappointing about the security in this place, about the reaction of the authorities and also the attitude of the hotel manager. The police has no reaction and the hotel manager doesn't want to get in contact with me when I informed about the theft , latter one when I succeed to get his e-mail address he went to the Police ...

Big Time R&R

... you get out of the large centres. It is still not affordable, but we have little choice in the matter as that price is about as low as you can find here. Our first night we walked to Agia Pelagia which is 1.5 Km from us down hill. Everything here is either up hill or down hill and the hills are steep! We bought groceries for our kitchen and found the walk back up not too bad. for the first two ...

Crete - beaches, Knosses, and the Samarian Gorge

... br> Another highlight was the palace of Knossos where we also learned several new things. This is the palace where the Minotaur, half man half bull, is said to lived in the palace's many roomed maze. Every year seven girls and seven boys from Athens were sent to Knossos for him to eat. What we learned is that life was probably very good in Knossos ( the first flush toilets in the world) . It was ...

Thankful

Just finished reading Portraits by Cynthia Freeman. Makes me feel even more grateful for my family. I must be one of the luckiest girls around to have a family who love and support me.

Where to eat?

Went out to dinner last night. Nicky & Graham had given us a lovely card which us a great trip and £40! for us to spend so that we at least are able to go to dinner once - so that's what we did. We walked down to town. It's a pretty place build around teh bay with here and there a fisher's boat resting in the sea. Seeing all the restaurants we were afraid (well that's not really the right word but you know what I mean) of being hassled by every restaurand emplyee ...

It's hot!

... apartement. But at last -we didn't think we would ever get there!- we arrived there and sat down exhausted, dripping with sweat, at the pool dipping our feet in the lovely cool water. I almost, almost, jumped in it with all my clothes on and all! After a few minutes Eve decided to get busy and clean the pool and tried to get bugs and leaves out of it with a fsihing net. When back at our aprtment we ...

A tough start

... we stood, the two of us, backpacks at our feet thinking what are we doing here?! Crossing the road and going down the path where we find a sign to our villa '500 m'. Now it might just be me but these Greek meters are sure longer than ours! We walked, and walked, and in the end climbed - although climbing? Seriously struggling to get up the hill in the burning sun with ...

Magical Crete

... were all on the lowest level of the site, in dank darkness. How easily anyone could have found their way through them in the dark, especially since some of them connect in surprising ways, is difficult to imagine. Some scholars think these corridors are to be equated with the "labyrinth" of the Minotaur legend. The Minotaur was the monstrous beast with the body of a man and the head of a bull who required a tithe of youths and maidens from ...
