Another early breakfast after a good nights sleep, a few people look a bit worse for wear after yesterday. Breakfast at 7am and coach departs about 8.15. About a 2 hour trip along the old coast road rather than motorway, giving us some fantastic views of the Aegean coastline. Arriving in Izmir we ...

The day starts with a traumatic experience, as we are getting ready to leave some of the men who were here with the rams reappear, they untied them and proceed to sacrifice them almost in front of us. I have witnessed sacrifices in Nepal at their festivals and I find them very upsetting. If you have never heard an animal squealing as their throat is cut you cannot know how horrible it is. I know that I shouldn't judge other people's cultures but it I find ...

... a population of 250,000. It was worthwhile spending extra to visit some newly discovered terrace houses lived in by the rich. They were under cover and very well displayed so you could see the intricate mosaic floors and the comforts they enjoyed - like under floor heating! There was also a team of archaeologists there working on putting together a jig saw of pieces of tiling from the walls - fascinating. At the end of the Ephesus tour we are a ...
