We arrived at Brindisi at around 8.30 after a bit if a hot night on the boat. The ferry was OK but the AC in the cabin was poor, though a man said it could have been changed; maybe.... The cabin itself was good and the crossing smooth but it was bit a short hot night. Getting off the boat was also slow, not helped but unbelievably stupid lot who managed to have an accident on the boat deck due to impatience.... ...

They hate the Turks in Lecce. This is because of a war and dominance by the Turks over the people of Lecce. The symbol/emblem of Lecce is a dolphin with a half moon in its mouth. The half moon represents Turkey - the dolphin (representing the people of Lecce) is eating the Turks.

From a distance, either north or south, Gallipoli was a strikingly white town out in the blue of the Mediterranean. Absolutely spectacular.

... had been our intended destination, but as most of the streets leading into town were closed, with police directing traffic....needs to be seen to be believed, we had no hope of getting close so kept on going. The scenery was again stark and wind blown, though fortunately the mist had lifted.
