Nice relaxed day, went shopping early, there was a M&S opposite the boat so some good old English bacon and sausage was called for then after a hearty full English with French eggs, we headed out to explore round St Peter Port, again with it still being festival time the town was putting free music events on during the day so we stopped and watched some of the free entertainment on offer. After ...

We got up early again and ventured into town and went shopping, two pairs of new shoes later - ( for me not Tracey ! ) we headed back to the chandlers on the Marina to buy a stainless steel rod holder for the rear gantry on the boat. We couldn't leave until 2pm so we had lunch aboard and tidied the boat and did all our checks, engine, sails, lines etc etc. and before we knew it it was time to leave. We didn't feel as nervous as usual, we must be getting more adapted ...

Arrived in St. Helier on Friday evening after an uneventful ferry ride from Guernsey. St. Helier is definitely bigger and flatter than St. Peter Port, they even have double-decker buses!

... presented private museum showing how the islanders lived through the 5 years of Occupation

Friday morning (since I was not scheduled to leave for Jersey until the 5.30 pm ferry), I went out to the German Underground Hospital. It is a rabbit warren of tunnels hewn out of the rock on which Guernsey is built, they are very damp, indeed wet now, but I don't think it would have been much better in 1944 when it was used for German casualties from the ...

    Back to the beach

We intially had big plans to head out early today and drive a considerable distance to visit another village. However, thankfully we stopped ourselves just in time before falling into the normal holiday trap of trying to fit in way too much in a short time and missing what is on your doorstep. So instead we took a deep breath and decided to explore closer to home and not miss out on the simple treasures nearby. And we are so gad we ...
