The Land of Chocolate, Beer and Waffles

... the bar that we had met during dinner at a local restaurant called de Hobbit. It was a tiny little place with little tables. Steve had ribs and I had lamb with feta cheese- delicious! We also met an older British couple at the bar that we sat and chatted with as well. They were very nice and had interesting stories about Europe. The man looked like he had time-warped out of the 70s or 80s and he looked so British to me, like from ...

Ok Im all out of Dutch sayings

... you can find out all you needed and wanted to know about the history of the french fry and how to properly execute the cooking of said fry. I think i took more pictures of this than of anything else in Brugge.

Fun fact: We Americans call it a French Fry because Belgian soldiers showed American soldiers how to make them in the war and they were speaking French, and it just stuck.

There is a church that I visited ...

Brugge and Mussels in Brussels

... 8211; ‘Mannekin ****’ I think his name is (everyone told me the statue was going to be smaller than I thought, so I thought it was going to be small.. but not that small?!) So Megg and I were wondering what the hell we were going to do for the rest of the day (we aren’t exactly 100% motivated to look at stuff anymore..) when Megg whacked me and yells ‘JAC!’. Yep, a familiar face – Megg bumped into her old housemate Jac, and ...

Propeller planes, Wup and Belgian Beer!

... br>
I gave the horrible strawberry beer back to the waiter and asked for the Muscat beer, it only came in a 750ml bottle so Witek agreed to share it with me. It was also quite expensive compared to the other beers, probably about double. We called it another birthday present J

They bought out the bottle and it was in a kind of champagne bottle so I thought that was a good sign. He popped the cork and we poured each other a glass and took a sniff. It smelled scarily like the ...

Great little town, just like the movie but better!

... but I know what the waiters were talking among themselves about after they left.

Well, one more day in Bruges, then I board the train Saturday morning for Amsterdam and the final leg of the trip. I’m looking forward to lugging my luggage just one last time before coming home. Tomorrow it’s laundry day again. I finally found the Laundromat the hotel recommended down a bunch of twisty streets and snapped about 40 photos on the way.

In Bruges

... into a chocolate store and get free samples during a chocolate-making presentation. By this point, I had introduced everyone in our group to the VanAcker family-style vacation, so we had walked basically over the entire area of Bruges and seen everything our Bible/Europe on a Budget had listed. For dinner, we were planning to eat at a place called the Hobbit (right next door to Tolkein – this place is great for nerds), but after walking around ...

My Favorite City in Belgium...Bruges

Trip to St Idesbald

... in Australia. There was a little girl of 2 years and a half, but that was not so much fun than playing "I crash my cuistax against yours" type of game with the 2 other ones. And the baby Juliette, well ...for Killian it's another world already. Not to sure what to do with her! The afternoon we decided to have everone cycling around the sand dunes ...

Battlefields and a Medieval town

... war cemeteries, there's little sign that the entire area was practically nothing but a wasteland by the war's end in 1918. In the evening, I returned to the present, and walked all through Brugge. Took lots of great photos and basically just enjoyed being here. Tomorrow, I'll check out the remaining sites here in Brugge, then head for Ghent for a night. Some of the people I was talking with told me that it's even better than here, so I have to check it out.

Bruges - Belgiums Medieval City

... out and have Belgian waffles and ice cream. Adjacent to Huidenvettersplein is Rozenhoedkai Street, usually the starting point for an enchanting canal tour of Bruges and for photographers the site of a great photo of the Belfry. But with all that junk food still swirling around my stomach, I decided against it and continued to explore the city by foot. The Beginhof is another part of Bruges not to be missed. It is former convent housed in a ...
