Yesterday, we visited the Xinjiang Museum where we saw the amazing and intriguing mummies - some more than 4000 years old - which have been found in the area. I found an article in the Independent from 2006 about it, which you can read if you are interested!

... Next on the list was drinking slushies and beer in the park, then KTV. We figured an hour of KTV would probably do the trick, but ended up yowling away for about 3 instead. Finally, after noodles and beer we parted company. I was extremely happy to have met Ma Jun and sad to see him go. The next day, LX and his uncle took me to the airport. I was already out of sorts in the morning. I had had a fantastic time in Xinjiang. I had met so many lovely people ...
Changji, Xinjiang Uygur, China iolair... the curiosity was even more noticeable when walking around with LX (Han) and Ma Jun (Hui) than usual. After being very nice, but glancing at me surreptitiously when she thought I wasn't looking, the waitress finally couldn't contain herself and the question "Which race is she?" burst out from her lips. I can see if I come back to Xinjiang I am going to have to have a t-shirt made with this information printed on it in order to stop people from dying of curiosity regarding my heritage.
Changji, Xinjiang Uygur, China iolair... he was supposed to burn for extra luck. When he got outside he was told he needed to burn 60RMB worth of incense, which he declined using the excuse that he was there with his teacher who was a heathen atheist and disapproved of such things. Chuh. He should have been thankful. Another woman was told she needed to burn incense worth 198RMB!!! The priest was not game to lecture me, or flog off expensive incense in my presence. He just looked at my hands and wished happiness to me and ...
Urumqi, Xinjiang Uygur, China iolair... her to help me send a message to my Mum telling her I was fine, could not call out and to tell her the hotel number. JV was one of the few people in China who knew for sure where I was, which was why I called her. I didn't want to go getting even more people worried about me being here in Xinjiang. She readily agreed, but unfortunately while I could talk to JV and JV could talk to my mum, Mum and I still couldn't manage to talk to ...
Changji, Xinjiang Uygur, China iolair... I was coming to was not itself, in fact it was at its very worst, and so not judge it harshly. I thanked him for his concern, told him I was sorry about what had happened to his friend's family and wished him the best. Then I stared down at the desert and tried to stop tears that were trying to creep out of my eyes. Up until now I have been welcomed everywhere I have gone in China. It occurred to me that people who would normally be happy to see me, could well view me with ...
Changji, Xinjiang Uygur, China iolair... were green, covered with flowering petunias and the streets were clean and well maintained. The city is a fascinating melting pot of Uighur and Han Chinese peoples and modern sky scraper buildings sit side by side with mosques, old city housing and fabulous bazaars.
The most striking feature of Urumqi, and of other cities in the far west of China, is that most of the people no longer look at all Chinese. They are of course not Chinese but are mostly ...
This is a small escape from the prison since I'm on holiday from my slavery work. I've planned to apply 2 to 3 days of break during the 19 days of my boss on his dame "back home vacation". Everybody should notice that his vacation was on my 23rd day arrived the factory. I didn't even fully understand all the equipment inside the water and wastewater treatment system as well as all the other managerial personal. That is straightly a hell to me.
Urumqi, China shipchan... with his friends to ask what there is to see in urumuqi (he had lived there his whole life). they weren't too sure either, but they all agreed that we should eat lamb and drink beer. sounded good. we got stuck in a traffic jam and didn't have as much time as we planned. urumqi, as it sprawls from the airport, seems to be mostly made up of the old buildings that have already been demolished in the rest ...
Urumqi, China johnkramer... between paying the 3 % on Visa, and 0.75% on the Traveller's cheques. Decide we need the TC's more than the percentage points, so get out another Y3000. All of this is in 100's, so we now have quite a wad in the money belt. Get lost walking out a different door to the one at which we first arrived, so do a lot of excess walking in the savage afternoon sun. Overshoot the Email Cafe we are looking for, but find it following the ...
