... the weather being so drab we set off on our way back to the hostel in search of food. Yay! Happiness restaurant saved the day. Possibly the best meal (Stacey's, Neil's was in Beijing) since we arrived. The place was beautiful and had all the facilities of a smart, upmarket restaurant. Hard to find in urban China. Still only 13 pound altogether for the meal which included six dishes :0

... Didi and granddaughter Mengya drove us to a historic town Qingyan. In our previous time in Guiyang we visited this former Ming-era military outpost a couple of times. Qingyan dates back to 1378 and was once a traffic between southwest provinces.

In 1995 the town with its winding, smooth stone-flagged streets and partially restored city walls was a quiet haven for us to wander imagining what life would have been like.

He took us to the office of foreign affairs where we were able to make contact with a few of our past colleagues.
