We're now anchored by another beach a little way from the town itself, hoping fervently that we'll be able to leave tomorrow at low water (we're theoretically in a deep hole right now, but the channel back out gets alarmingly shallow in places). It's cloudy today, and cooller than yesterday, but the Spanish are evidently hardier than you'd expect - they're merrily swimming away in water that was cold enough ...
... as the last one but lots of wild flowers so very pretty. Soon get to the start of the Rioja - vineyards for as far as you can see in every direction. Arrive in Haro at 6 pm. Too late for visiting vineyards today so we unload car into our nice little apartment just off the main Square in town. Set out to find somewhere to have dinner - discover we are in paid parking area - hurriedly buy ticket for display.

We have spent 3 wonderful days in a small village set in a beautiful, tranquil valley near the Picos de Europa national park. Our apartment was located in a very traditional, brightly coloued Asturian house. On arrival the extremely friendly owners presented us with a plate of Asturain salami and cheese and a bottle of cider (6%) which was very nice but the language barrier was extreme due to their dialect, rapid-fire speech and zero English. The park has some beautiful trails past along small streams, quaint hamlets and lone farms. It's pretty quiet now, but in summer it should be crowded, hikers walking the paths in droves. Glad we made the detour over the mountains. ...
... plus you know it’s clean and not crammed with lead and spiders. After lunch we passed Marseille and drove up the Cote d’ Azur to St Tropez. These roads were very scenic and fantastic fun, minus the odd maniacal overtaking manoeuvres made by token BMW driving Germans. On arrival in St Tropez we were in need of showers once again, so we stopped at what we thought was a campsite to ask the favour. It turned out to be a very fancy beach resort but I asked anyway.
