... the basic needs, banking, post office etc are Rae and probably only exist in one out of every 5 or so towns. We cycled through St Armand, and on to Montegne du Nord where we met the barge and boarded to to sail to Tournau in Belgium. We stepped onto the barge around 6pm and got ready for another delicious dinner cooked by Rick, pasta entree with tuna, and followed by beautiful parcels of fish ...

... they were doing there or lamenting not having chosen another university for their exchange year.

I also noticed that my few pictures are all pictures of roofs and bell towers and such, and after a while I figured it out: I didn't want to see the ugliness of the life at ground level, too many people, too many cars, not enough space, nothing pretty. Everything's grey, everything's sad, no-one smiles. To escape for a moment, I had to look up and look at the sky...

Raining!!!! Pack up and leave Offranville early. Then long drive to Lille to hand in rental car (not the easiest thing to do at Gare de Lille – there's no signs at all to say where to go or what to do, and couldn’t find any on line info either – so lucky we left plenty of time to drive in circles round the station and city for a fair while.....). Uneventful Eurostar trip, marred at the end by UK Customs & Immigration deciding to re-processes all passengers ...
