... another township we could not drive through as the main road was being reconstructed. This has happened to us three times in the last two days and makes things very difficult when you have no idea where detours are taking you and the Sat Nav lady is telling you to "turn right" into a road that is well and truly blocked! ... He was wounded during the Battle of Loos....in the cods and obviously could not father a child. He told me that his life would have been substantially different had his grandmother's brother not been wounded.

For most families who have relatives touched by war, the absolute opposite applies, as it did in my case.

After a good half day covering the battle of Loos it is back to the hotel room to crack a bottle of red and watch the Olympic Road Race
