Our long weekend ended in Heidelberg which is one of our favorite cities so far. After finding our hotel and parking about a half mile away, we stopped for lunch at Cafe Romantic. As it turns out, it wasn't very romantic at all and left disappointed, but we moved on to the bridge and then the castle. We got there around 10:30am and there were already plenty of families there who had the same idea. Luckily we arrived just in time for the seal show and they did the usual tricks. But the two six month old pups were just adorable. They were too small to even eat the fish!

Because it's winter, a lot of the animals were moved inside from their outdoor enclosures. We got to see more animals than I expected and I was surprised ...

... town center has some really nice old buildings, however, they need to be taken care of.

Also most shops are especially made for tourists, esp. for Asian ones. Asian employees work in the shops and there are Asian letters on the windows. That at least to me is a definite turn off as after all it is Heidelberg, a town famous for its history, culture and university. I guess though that everything changes over time.

... named, apparently, after Karl…the lord of the area, who became disillusioned with his (fancy) lot in life and needed to find some peace and rest (Ruhe in German…so he dreamt of how to set out his town in a nice fan shape with parks and green areas. ... It was fun to hear someone else’s tour concert, tho, and we were glad we weren’t in charge. The total group of about 200 had been touring for about two weeks and were to fly back the next day.

We went into the church where Nile’s choir performed back in the '90’s. We took some pictures there, as it was renovated in the early 2000’s, so it looks different. We wandered a bit and bought sausages for our train trip the next day and a ...
