... roads is very slow. Our hotel is located about 8 km outside Baden Baden and is set in the middle of a grape vineyard. It is peaceful and quiet. The rooms are extremely large and comfortable with views over the vineyard. The name of the hotel is Rebenhof. One thing to note on today's drive is how fast the Germans five on the Autobarn. We were doing 140kmh and cars passed us like we were doing 100kmh. I would estimate that some ...

At one stage we were followed by vehicle that looked like a Lotus race car with the driver and passenger wearing helmets. They soon zoomed past us never to be seen again. We explored via train, bus and foot, and despite a lack of English signage or timetables, managed ...

... geological tourism provided through sculptures of dice made from the various rock types in the area. We climbed the lookout tower for some better 360 degree views of the surrounding mountains and valleys and obligatory photos. Lunch was had in the restaurant perched on the mountain top and it was time to explore my Germanic heritage with a traditional bratwurst, chips, sauerkraut and beer ...

    Castle in the snow

Boxing DayWe've made this a new entry as we didn't put in the photos.

Snow, snow and more beautiful snow. It is still snowing
    lightly as I write this.

Today we visited Hohenzollern Castle. The present castle was
rebuilt by the German royalty in an extravagant style. It has not been lived in
since it was built in the 1850s! And a little bit of history about the inter
    marriage of European ...
