... local transport and contrary to most of Luxor and everything you may hear about Egypt people are actually frindly and helpful. Right, lecture over!!
3) Mummification Museum - Blkoody waste of money and an absolute rip-off.
4) Valley of the Kings - This was awesome, although 2 of the 3 tombs we wanted to see were closed for resttoration. You canty take photos there, but at each tomb you walk down into it, alongside some beautiful walls painted with symbols and stories ...
... before. It was so clear that you could lie down and see nothing but stars, almost making you believe that everything else had fallen away. That was definitely the best part of the dinner.
After the dinner, we decided to check out the clubbing scene. Girls can basically go to any club for free, but we were able to get the boys in for free too since they were our "guests" so that was useful. When we first got to the club, we were the only ...
... they told us we only needed water. We asked about a flashlight and they told us we definitely did not need one. We were skeptical about this answer because we knew we were climbing up the mountain in the middle of the night, but we listened to their advice anyways. The bus arrived at the base of Mt Sinai around 1am and we started the trek to the top. We were given a guide to help us get to the top, he hiked barefoot. We quickly discovered we did need a flashlight to navigate around ...
Dahab, Red Sea and Sinai, Egypt kickthrough... went for a camel ride into the desert to watch a sunset. This day Cynthia and I rode three animals! We took donkeys in Petra up to the Monastary (it was too hot to try and climb the 1700 steps). We rode horses out of Petra and then camels in the dessert. The following morning we went on a jeep safari in Wadi Rum. The scenary was spectacular and I even got to climb a (fake - it wasn't freestanding) sand dune. We spent the afternoon in Aqaba on the coast of ...
Dahab, Red Sea and Sinai, Egypt joncyn... she speaks Arabic, and helped get us a cab into town, a short ride, and we hopped into the back on a pickup truck, and they dropped us off at our Boutique hotel for our first night in Dehab. We decided to live it up the first night, and stay in German owned Boutique hotel with a bakery next door...how convenient for me, since there is nothing more exciting than homemade cakes and brownies! Our room was great , and the nicest , and most ...
Dahab, Red Sea and Sinai, Egypt elizacass... met by Abdul the caretaker, and Tim the owner/manager and walked over to the apt down a dirt road filled with bleating goats and a camel peering over the fence from next door. A warm breeze was blowing in from the Gulf of Aquaba. OK, this place will do, we thought as we slipped into the Egyptian cotton sheets of our bed - only to be awoken at 5 am by a blaring call to prayer that sounded as though the speaker was right outside our window. Later investigation revealed that it was ...
Dahab, Red Sea and Sinai, Egypt hamiltonfamily... about that. Dahab is full of Westerners which makes a nice change from the previous few days. Lots of people to talk to. When I came traveling I didn't want to see many other westerners but after Alexandria and Siwa I'm glad to see them and have people to talk to all the time.
Hotel is very nice. Very cheap and it is right on the sea front. Sea is crystal clear. Lots of restaurants ...
... fish both big and small. I used up my air a little quicker than Matt (which I attribute to gulping air while doing my mask flood and being such a girl at first), so it was a 40 minute total bottom time, although I'm sure Matt and the guide could have gone longer. We're doing another dive in the morning at one of the best spots in the world apparently, The Canyon. It's a deep water dive though, at max bottom depth 30 metres, as opposed to ...
Dahab, Red Sea and Sinai, Egypt mattandneetie... species of mollusc and 150 species of crustaceans. Very nice diving here and words cannot describe the visions we saw here. We dived in three sublime locations, Shark Reef, eel Garden and Yolanda. As far as we were concerned, we were in heaven. The highlight was a beautiful Spotted Eagle Ray with a long tail that glided passed just below us and the huge Napoleon Wrasse fish that are like giant goldfish but there were so many fish with exotic names swarming past us, fish ...
Dahab, Red Sea and Sinai, Egypt inoursuitcase... out we would have to look at nature and work it out for ourselves. We looked at the bit that went down but there were no tracks below so we knew it was going to have to be up and out. We were then told that there were three different paths to go down to the bottom and that we each had to choose one. Once we got out of the canyon we came across Ain Hudra oasis and we stopped here to have a cup of tea with a Bedouin family. It was about 8am at ...
