... painted on the dome including “Hell”. Then came 263 steeper steps circling upward to the top. What a view of all of Florence! Joe was slightly annoyed when we struck up a conversation with a stranger who asked how we made it. No kidding, it was quite a workout for everyone concerned. Another visitor said her family wait in line or two hours was worth it. We agreed the cost of the Firenze Card which let us skip the line proved its worth.

... in order to get a good view and feel of the town considering I would only be here a couple hours. The city is nice. It's the quietest of all cities I've been to yet, but a nice quiet. Until you get to the tower and cathedral, where it's tourist central. The tower itself is much nicer than I expected. Very well sculpted and on more of a lean than I expected. ... along the river. I arrived at the bus with 10 minutes to spare, but Murphy's Law I would have missed the bus if I had used that 10 minutes just to run in to see Galileo's telescope. If only I had had even just 30 more minutes... We were supposed to organise our own dinner tonight, but Dave knew this family in Florence who had their own vineyard, and when they offered to do us a tour, tasting, and home-cooked dinner for us we jumped at the opportunity, and so Dave prearranged it ...

... where you get to see the whole of this beautiful city. You can get a bus or taxi but the walk is worth it for the views you get on the way. Walking back towards the main part I go to the piazza Della signoria that is where the Michelangelo museum is. Her you can go throughout the museum and take a guided tour and walk to the top ...

... were ready for lunch after 2 1/2 hours of museum viewing - we sped thru the Modern Art and Costumes museums, and although the Modern Art paintings deserved more viewing, we needed a break.
