... and at least I got to use it! Tomorrow is supposed to be better.
One very nice thing is the camaraderie amongst the walkers. We've met lots of little groups and one large group from Brisbane of all places. When we cross paths, there's a lot of chatting about the journey, and then we've just now met a few in the pub and had another chat.
Anyway, must rest up now for Day 2, another big day. ...

... countryside is spectacular with huge hills (mountains?) rising up all around the Head which is the flat land leading up into the hills. There is a pub there called the Wasdale Head Inn and we had a lovely lunch there before heading out for a walk. The place is a Mecca for climbers and walkers and there were a lot of people there doing just that, even though it is a bit off the beaten track - quite a windy single lane road once you get off the main road. ...

... has kindly lent it to us for the week. It's a diesel but seems very economical which is good as petrol is a fearful price in UK. Much of the countryside up to Scotch Corner was flat, but once we turned off we began to hit rolling, green countryside - very pretty and the green is vibrant. Probably indicating a lot of rain. ... s church at Wythop, it was a little difficult to find, but truly lovely and well worth it. We then drove to Workington where Chris grandmother Wheezy used to live, after that we drove to Whitecliff where we walked along the seafront. ... the color is caused by iron mixed in with the slate which makes it unusable. Similar to a cave walk the guide turned out all the lights including the ones on our helmets to show how dark it really is in there. Before we knew it we were back on the surface. We walked back to the bus stop to continue our circle tour. The country side is very pretty and if we had the time there are many places to get off the bus and hike around a bit. ...
