... mountain lakes, waterfalls and the odd glacier or two. There is a shrine near the Eiger dedicated to the climbers who have "made it up the wall" and also those who have lost their lives attempting it! Once inside the shrine you hear a howling wind and on a pulpit a metal plaque has a list of climbers and the date they completed/attempted the climb. Press a button and the path they took is lit up on a small replica ...

This made the trip a more reasonable CHF 28 rather than double. The vehicle is a funicular i.e. the downward moving car is connected to the upward one by a steel cable and as one car moves down the other goes up. They meet in the middle where there are two tracks so they can cross. (Physics note: ...

... which I enjoyed. We arrived in Zurich at 17:10 and disembarked, and it was 19:15 when we got out of the airport and onto the coach for the 2 hour coach journey to Lauterbrunnen. We arrived and unpacked our bags into our room, on the top floor, which I shared with JJ. We had dinner on chicken curry and got our ski equipment and then went to bed at around ...
