So it's the start of my study abroad trip in Japan! I was only slightly scared on the takeoff of the plane but got used to the flying experience pretty quickly. The 12 hour flight was long and I couldn't get any sleep due to nerves and not really being able to sleep on transport. It meant that I could instead keep getting excited about the countries we were flying over. Tokyo haneda airport was really nice, with brightly coloured shops ...

... went really quickly. There were set time slots for meals so that kind of structured my day a bit. In between meal times I went up on deck to take some snaps and enjoy the sea air, read a little, played on my iPhone and did my laundry. So as soon as I got to Shimonoseki station, found my hotel (it was nice) dumped my **** and headed over the the ferry terminal. When I got to the terminal there was no one at the counter. Crapola!!! They were shut for the day. Panicometer went up ...

A travel blog entry by rbfromnj on Oct 30, 2013

Customer service here is amazing.

At the Toyoko Inn in Kokura, I was lingering at one of the computers in the lobby at 10 a.m., when the room cleaning staff begin their work. The cleaning staff lined up at the other end of the room and in unison, bowed, welcomed the hotel guests, and thanked us for staying here.

Arriving at the Japan Airlines check-in counter at Fukuoka Airport, the staff offered to ...

Thank You Host Family!

Thursday, August 15th

After the extravaganza of all night karaoke for Carlos' birthday I was back in Fukuoka and waiting to meet my host mother and also getting to see everyone again. It felt like we were apart for so long and great seeing the family we became again.

My host mother's name was Yumiko and she was very nice. It was a little awkward at first never really being in that situation, but an hor car ride with just the two of us fixed that. We ...
