I have to say the city has a good feel now and I am really glad we have visited it.

Enter the baltics
Entering the baltics overnight it was great to wake up somewhere new rather than drive there and the associated fatigue, yes whinge whinge, but it's more taxing on the other side of the road, and they still drive pretty shiftily here. Vilnius was quite different to the recent cities and towns we had visited, very clean and kempt, and the old square with the town hall feels like the back to the future set, i even tested the sockets to see if it could draw a few gigawatts...*sigh* it ...

... peaceful protest organised to build a human chain from Lithuania up to Estonia. Around 2 million people were involved and the chain was about 600km long. I went to the spot in Lithuania where the chain started, and there is now a special tile on the ground. There is a superstition about spinning in a clockwise circle three times and making a wish on the tile, and I saw many people try it.

European Escapades
... really good even if you don't love the taste of Guinness. They explained the history of the famous brand and you even get to taste a pint at their sky bar which has views over Dublin. Eugene and I also went on a half day trip out to the country to see a magnificent Castle and drive along the coastline. It was damn cold but we managed to see some beautiful areas. Taurage Adventure

Even though I did not meet any direct relatives on my great grandfather's side, I certainly met three wonderful women. They were so surprised to find an American in Taurage and I was so blessed to find people willing to help me. On the bus ride back to Vilnius I felt as though I had just fallen from the sky and Ona, Remigija and Judita had caught me with open arms.
