We just finished the tour du Mont Blanc - 180km, 3 countries, 9 days! Also some sore feet by the end...
actually it was probably some of the nicest hiking we have ever done - stayed in some lovely hotels and mountain refuges, ate amazing food each day, good wine each night!

... and pasture land surrounded by a great backdrop. I was the only cyclist on the col and less than half a dozen cars crossed my path on the ascent and descent combined.
I had to traverse the Annecy to Albertville bike path to get to the start, which at 5.30am is pretty much empty. From mid morning until around 7.00pm the path is full of cyclists of all varieties.
... base of Mont Blanc. Stunning views around every corner and a great place to stop for a beer and a bite before heading back to Annecy.
Tomorrow I climb the Col de L'Arpettaz a climb full of hairpins and a little known gem down towards Albertville.
Rain is forecast so it could be interesting.

At the hotel we sat in the patio in back for a couple of hours chatting with some of the other cyclists that were starting to filter in from their rides. There was a group of seven riders from Belgium that had done the Grande Fondo de Marmotte, which is a one day 175km ride through 3 Cols and culminating with Aple D'Huez. Hmmm...I may have to come back for ...

After that the road eased into grades averaging 4 to 8%, which by now was not too bad…hell, there was actually even a kilometer of downhill about half way. It was not to last.
