We stayed in the old part of Seoul (at the Hilton - but it was nice) and close to the main Seoul train/subway station and Mt. Namsan. We were able, with Tara's help, to get around on the subway. Dain had a few days off work when we arrived so we were able to see the sights with guides --- Olympic Park, Buddhist temples, main palace, Insadong, Namdaemun market, Dongdaemun market, Coex, Mt. Namsan, and Freedom Bridge and the border between North and South Korea.

... something else. I mean, we have so many damn categories for things anymore that reading the Guinness Book of World Records is like listening to Harry Doyle in Major League..."well, he's hitting .400 in days games this year, not played in a dome, north of the Mason Dixon line, so that's something to keep in mind."

Are we all really this lacking in confidence, that we need to create more and more categories until everyone feels special, and thinks they are special ...
Seoul, Korea Rep. jknoff22... It was much clearer than the morning and we could actually see some of the strucutures and buidings (or at least make the outline) they had told us about. I tried to sneak a few more pctures, but the ROK guards were a bit more active in patroling illegal photos this time so we took some from behind the yellow line like we were meant to, but it didn't come out very clear.

We went back to the Camp Kim and it was a most satisfying ...

There were plenty of people about, despite it being a working day, although the majority of them were twice my age.

After climbing about 700m the hike became a lot more strenuous, and I found myself using metal cables to haul myself to the peak. The view from here was stunning, although marred my the smog below in Seoul. Despite that, it felt like I was twice as high as I actually was, most likely as I'd climbed ...

I asked about having a high depression rate at the school since they study so hard, and my home-stay sister said they do. The funny thing I noticed with all of the Koreans and Americans in the same room, was that the Americans always seemed much more confident than the Koreans.
After our discussions we learned how to make kimchi and kimbop. Kimchi is a traditional Korean ...
Seoul, Seoul, Korea Rep. laurenhonicanJust after nuclear bomb testing and balistic missile launching by North Korea, with a declaration that the war was not over, I took my plane to South Korea and landed in the middle of national funerals: the former president had just jumped off a cliff after having been implied in bribery accusations.

I had to leave early from Pau to get to Paris Charles de Gaulle airport, and nearly missed my plane as usual. I got there on time ...
Seoul, Korea Rep. peacefrog... of smoking and drinking among high schoolers. Can you imagine American children having that kind of schedule? It really makes us seem lazy and whiny. I have a lot of respect for how hard they work and their dedication, but it also seems as though they are missing the point of it all and would see their lives passing by without taking time to enjoy, to be. It's all work, work, work and they're playing is often unhealthy amounts of drinking and ...
Seoul, Korea Rep. truddick... br>
The culture is experiencing diminishing respectful traditions for the elders. Back in the day peers were very much at a hierarchical rank. I often don’t see the traditional drink pouring for peers and the Koreans just talk as if it’ is more of an ancient tradition. When I go out with my co-workers I never pour drinks or turn my head to the side when ...
Seoul, Seoul, Korea Rep. tbeaner21... at the battery charger for our cameras and it says that the input has a range of 110-240V....so I am thinking it will convert the electricity on its own.I am tempted to try it.......we will see. I might be buying a new charger on Ebay shortly! Ha! This weekend is supposed to get really really really cold. I might be staying in the whole time. Except I really want to go buy a new book. I swear that reading is my only hope for maintaining any of my adult vocabulary!
Seoul, Korea Rep. april.abate... home. Hands turned purple. To bed, at home. A nice nap. Up around 730pm. Skyped with Paul. Ramen and a egg for dinner. Yummie! Watched some Law & Order Criminal Intent. Repeat. Big H watched her boy on CSI Miami. I'm over in the office, on the big and little laptops. Paul has gone to bed and I'm headed there soon, I hope. Another fun day in Mok5. Good night World! xxx ooo
