The next few blogs are of separate trips that we did: Sue to Rhodes in the Greek Isles (on her list of "must-do's!" for many, many years) and The Hague in the Netherlands (something she didn't DARE hope she could one day do), and John to Istanbul and Gallipoli in Turkey, a place I have always wanted to visit to acknowlege the great sacrifice given by so many there.

... entered a cavernous room with vaulted ceiling which must having been a main communal area. The floors were devoid of any intrusions so the bareness gave full impact to the size of the room but once your eyes adjusted to the light you could see headstones resting gently against the walls...they belonged to the knights. We read the headstone of an English knight.

As we went out on the verandah we spied another corridor and followed it through to a veritable oasis ...

Another beautiful day. Sunny 78 degrees on the island of Rhodes. We travel to Lindos half way down the island. To see the Acropolis were Paul spoke to the Greeks. A long climb to the top with a view to forever. Just outstanding. Back to the boat early to catch some sun by the pool.

I am going to upload a couple of pics from yesterday on Myconos to give you an idea of the beauty here.

... But they were our first ruins, so we enjoyed them anyway. The best part about the area was that we were all the way on top of the island, and could see for miles down the coast in either direction.

After a quick breakfast, we headed off to the port to catch our 9am ferry to Rhodes, but it looked like everyone else in Fethiye had the same idea. The boat was full of those annoying package holiday makers on a day trip to Rhodes.

After a rough ride, we bought our tickets to Athens (Rhodes to Athens €53 each, one way) and had the whole day to spend in Rhodes before our next ferry departed.

Rhodes was famous worldwide in the ancient world for the Colossus of Rhodes ...

... coming back was a early morning flight
sunday. but would much pref a aftertoon flight both ways!!

we had two weeks all inclusive. meaing the food and drinks included
places visited lindos,perfkos, falraiki,rhodes and symi island. also
did a jeep safari tour on the island was great. sure was action!1

Thankfully though there were actually some people here so I finished off my Turkish experience with a couple of fun nights out with the crew from the hostel and then headed off to Marmaris on Saturday from where I was supposed to get straight on the ferry to Rhodes but it had been cancelled due to rough seas. From the view when I got there, it didn't look like the water was rough enough to justify cancelling a boat trip but from the experience the morning ...

August 28th - Rhodes, Greece

I awoke at half past three. We were docked at some large town - and had been for some time. Was this Rhodes ? I ran down to the lower deck looking for someone to ask, anyone. But the ship was deserted. I caught a glimpse of myself in a mirror. I looked like the Wild man of Borneo, I thought.
