we sailed into boothsbay in the dark (as usual). we only had limited lights, so it was a crew effort to communicate with chris who was motoring the boat in via GPS coordinates and autopilot. <br><br>"boat at 1 o'clock!" <br><br> "mooring at 11 o'clock!" <br><br> we successfully docked (at the wrong dock than planned but we docked none the less). we had hoped to get farther up the coast but the last few days had been light wind (cary said ...

Day 29: Home Soil Produces Euphoria!

... back to the Vikings in 1000 AD and John Cabot in 1496. Parts of Newfoundland and New Brunswick look like they are the poor stepchildren of Canada. In New Brunswick many main roads are badly in need of repair. Prince Edward Island, by contrast, felt like we were back in the States. Its rolling hills, green pastures, thriving businesses and even the traffic have reminded us of Middle Tennessee, or Ohio ...

Ice Cream in short supply

... walked around the town. apparently there are two ice cream shops in town. both had lines out the door. we stood in a line for awhile but it was just too ridiculous to be in the line for long. how sad that the ice cream is so hard to get here!<br>

Homeward Bound

We left Eastport today. The sun is still shinning, so down the coast we go, stopping at Acadia National Park. We took the 27 mile park loop. Lots of people and cars. Attractive sights, but we have seen other places in Maine equally if not more spectacular which are uncrowded. The drive up Cadilac Mountian was worth it. It is only 1500 feet up but the views are spectaclur ...

Hotel

Cont'd Another long bus ride took us to dinner in Maine. The restaurant was called Buck's Naked Barbecue. Mr. Nish thought everyone needs to undress before going into the restaurant. They had Pool tables, foosball, and a jukebox. The girls were playing the jukebox a lot. Mr. Nish played a few songs that no one liked. Fortunately the hotel was 5 minutes away. But now we have a study session. Peace out! Krislyn and Courtney

Day 14-15 touring Boothbay Harbor Area

Day 14-15 Eating lots of seafood and blueberry pie. YUM! Shopping for pottery and local art in Boothbay Harbor. Driving out Hwy 27 and 238 and off the beaten path, we find Newagen, a lovely cove with all the beauty and character of Maine.

Maine Summer-First stop in the Northeast

It's always good to see an architect when your life needs a redesign, so off we go to Maine and our friend Ken Chipman and his dearest Jennifer. He's been dropping in on us in Hawaii for years so we are returning the favor. Beautiful food, hikes and people. We even managed to surprise Ellen and Glen Hibbard and were treated to delicious lasagna! Mahalo!

THE RAIN IN MAINE IS REALLY A PAIN

... much as I like lobster so I was ok with that. The scallops by the way were delicious.  After dinner it started raining harder so it appears Hannah had finally arrived. We made it to Brunswick about 5 miles further up the road and checked in for the night. The Knights Inn was ok. Nothing fancy, a little musty but clean and reasonable.  Didn't do much but turn on the TV and go to bed. It had been a really long day; up at 4:30 and losing 2 hours time-wise. We was tired.

Ducks and Dead Poets

... of downtown. We walked down to the peer, and found the tour. It was very informative, although I could have done without the stupid tour guide jokes. For example, I learned the difference between a male and female lobster. I also learned how one measures a lobster and that it is illegal to trap a female. Interestingly enough, Portland also has statues of Dead Poets, so I took a picture of William Wordsworth just for you Mary. I also learned that Portland is one of the ...
