... a lot of time attending events with the residents and getting to know them, while I worked. By the end of the week, Wren had made numerous friends, including Ted (a poet who gave her a signed copy of his book), Earl (who she danced with at the Valentine's Day dance) and Chuck, a spry 90-year-old trickster. These people were wonderful to Wren and to us in general. It made what could have easily been an awkward week into one we'll always remember.

... of air.... once the balloon is inflated to about 75% the fans are reduced to an idle and the burners are started and the flame is shot into the balloon... the hot light air, starts to inflate and fill out the balloon and give it some lift... and the hot light air, around the cold morning air (HEAVY) creates the lift required to get the balloon off the ground.... with the balloon inflated the basket is up righted and the passengers ...
... service we lit our candles, the lights were turned off, and then we all sang Silent Night. It was really nice. Then after the service we went over to a neighbours’ 5th wheel and had dessert. Yummy.

... the local military base proving grounds. Yesterday took the girls and visited the Yuma State Prison, would not have been a pleasant place to be incarcerated. Today we are going to see things that fly and go boom! Keith will be in his element.

Unlike most of our time down here, we've only been out on one hike and I wasn't very impressed. It was a good workout walking up 1200' in 2 miles and down again but it wasn't very exciting. We did see an ocotillo starting to leaf out and bloom which was a first. We saw many small, like 5-6" lizard like critters scurrying around. I'll have to find out what they're called.
